If youre after a v6 would pay to have someone from a capri club to run their eyes over it as well.
You got rember these cars are 40 yrs old now. All depends what u are after a project car or a turn key car.
You will pay big dollars for a genuine matching numbers car and will still pay good money for a project as they are finally starting to get very collectible.Carsales have few in time they tend to be turnkey big dollar cars.
Maybe contact the capri club in your state put the feelers out . HOw much have you budgeted for?

Thanks for the responses. Yeah I've been looking at carsales but as you said they're mostly turnkey cars which go for more.

    What I'm after:
-Don't want to have to do too much body work, panels need to be mostly straight
-As little rust as possible. Much more important than a straight body obviously
-Mileage doesn't matter as I'll be putting a new engine in
-If it's got a v6 then it'll more than likely stay in the car and I'll work on it
-Don't mind if the interior needs a bit of work. Even though it's expensive, it's good fun
-RWC would be dreamy! but obviously not going to bank on it

Budget (without giving it too much thought):
Depending on what's on offer really. For a good rolling shell - probably 3-5k
Good shell with a v6 but poor interior, poor brakes & shocks etc 5-9k maybe
Budget will depend on the car so it's flexible..don't want to put too many restrictions down..they're hard enough to find as is.

Might even end up importing from NZ. anyone know of someone who's done this?

You should get away with paying less than those figures if you keep a look out and prepare to wait for what you want.  Importing from NZ is an option, see these threads for further info:

Correct whools the guy who bought will still have to spend $10k to really finish it off or you could just drive it is and be done with it.

If someone paid 10g for that car he will be very dissapointed when he gets it home and realizes its a four cylinder shell.
The obvious signs are,.. no brake lines across the plenum. You can see the dimples in the plenum where the brackets would be if it was v6 shell.
No battery indentation in left inner guard as v6, this one is hard to fudge ask yourself why is the battery in the boot?
Matching numbers? The plate might match the engine but i bet it doesnt match the shell. Very convenient to have a strut top mod covering the real (4cyl) number.
Someone in the past has had a v6 that was too far gone and has transferred all the bits into a 4cyl. shell including its vin plate.
If Im right, and I think I am then this "project" is probably worth up to 3g.
