2.3L turbo Pinto from USA into Escort

Hi All,
Long time since I've been on here.

I'm looking into putting a 2.3Litre Turbo Pinto from a USA Sierra or Mustang into my escort.
Has anyone done this or tried to do this conversion?
Any tips would be very much appreciated?
The main issues that I can see are that the length of the engine might be a tight fit and the sump will need to be modded to fit.

It's not considered a great engine by many being that it weighs more than a 2litre pinto, but i already have the motor and it has a T5 behind it, so i'd like to try it out. I like the idea of using a relatively period FORD engine (from an 84 model sierra) and it gets around a few emissions issues for engineering too.

Heavier than a 2litre? Didn't think that was possible?
Id assume it has a web of pollution gear on the engine too? Wouldn't it just be easier to do a Zetec conversion?

This is the one here yeh?

    That looks like it.
Im sure a Cosworth conversion would be 'easier' and the Zetec needs a quite a few mods to fit it in anyway but might be 'cheaper', so like I said, I have the motor and wanted to see if anyone knows of issues trying to fit it in.

The engine block is definitely bigger and mounts slightly different. I believe the ports are bigger and the valves, like on the injection heads and the motor is quite torqey. Mate fitted one in a hilux and went like stink so Can't say about one in an escort. There was a second hand here at a wreckers but my brother talked me into the 2.0 job as he didn't have time to do mods.

There is one fitted to a Blue mark 1 escort in NSW, requires a bulge in the bonnet. Member of NSW SFCClub.

Thanks. I'll try to track that owner down to see if I can get any tips.
Could be worse than having a bonnet bulge!

Anyone else done this or tried to do this before?

Thanks Patrick. Awesome find. I've sent a PM to 72_Mk1, hope he's still around. Looks like he may be able to answer all of my questions.

I also tried a search but my dialup connection was not happy about it.

There is still boat loads of 'go fast' bits for them. .. And cheap too from USA ! I'd be looking for a pinto turbo 2.3 from a Murker XR4Ti . They are really heavy tho. ..
