2ltr pinto hard to start

hi guys, im trying to get my old 2ltr going good enough to get the van past rego pink slip, as the heading states its very hard to start, (even with a 240v jumper) but once started it runs quite well revs freely with no missing and farting, idles at 800rpm dont want to install the new engine yet as once i take out the old one i want time to clean the engine bay up and paint

i have put new spark plugs, put electric kit to replaced points done the timing and while the engine was warm, ive wound in the fuel air mixture in until idle died down and wound it back 3 1/2 times as per manual,

could it be the starter motor on the way out? it labours very badly like its a flat battery but i know its not the battery as it starts my VH wagon very easily

cheers

Check your earth. Add an extra one and see what happens. If battery is good and starter is too it must be your earth cable and don’t take it for granted.

the starter kicks all the time but is very laboured,  it use to be very easy to start but the past month or so its very laboured, i have not taken out the dizzy so it can not be TDC issues?

thanks Wiggy333 i think that did the trick, i just went out and sanded the earth wire end that goes to the block and the block , but i cant really check as just ran out of fuel from the past three days trying to get it starting easily, i've been adjusting timing tuning the carbie over n over without fixing,

started easily but died with no fuel

No fuel will do it too. Hope that helped.
