Changing Pinto Sump Gasket

Need to take my dry sump off (modified steel item) as some of the welds are leaking.  It also appears that the main gasket is leaking.
 
Firstly, I cannot face taking the engine out again.  I have never done it but is it possible to remove the sump with the engine in place?  Supporting the engine with an engine crane then dropping the crossmember/steering rack would appear to be an option.  Thoughts/confirmation?
 
Also, the sump has been MIG welded in places but the welds have started to leak.  What is the best option to repair?  I am thinking of getting somebody to braise those areas for me?  I have tried liquid metal but the oil still finds a way out.

Doing what you said is the best way to tackle the sump removal.
Brazing would be the best to fill the holes or cracks , tho I'd take it to an engine shop to have it hot tanked to remove any oil residue.

Paul , do the same with the alloy sump , tho it won't get all oil out of alloy it'll help the tig welder do his job neater.
I took an old mondeo sump to Bremen welding one day with the replacement shape to be stitched on and came up a treat , still have it today !!
