Hey Spud, I've got a 71 GT bonnet currently in spray putty that I hope to finish soon, once I learn to spraypaint.
It has the original XY twist locks same as yours (I've just bought a new kit from rarespares to freshen it up), and I have the steel mount brackets also.
Being a non GT car though, I'm expecting some head scratching figuring out the correct locations to drill the mounting holes for the lock brackets, short of taking the engine out or limboing in there. Any suggestions or know if theres some location dimensions somewhere online?
cheers

Even V6 GTs came without the bonnet locks occasionally (probably specially ordered that way).

For location of the brackets, see pics at the end of this thread: http://www.classic-ford.org/cfp/tm.aspx?m=26242

It was a delete option but I'm putting stripes and gt badges on it. Thinking orange stripes may be best

The XW s of the day had silver fox paint with orange stripes- good looking combo. Mate of mine has an old and new falcon in that colour combo, stands out in the crowd. Len

I third the orange stripes Spud.
Any decision on rims? Anthracite superlights/minilights would be me.

Orange stripes with silver is a good combo, but remember the interior is dark red. Maybe a red or dark red stripe would be more harmonious. IIRC the 68 xt gt falcon came in silver with a red stripe.

The gt stripes r fairly wide - very in your face with red? ( I still have that orange set you sold me JR - but I do that silver fox I could use them on). I'll see how the car looks when it's in colour ....

we used one of those "dremill" thingos to do the final ease on the guards and bonnet - enough gap (hopefully to include paint) to allow for door opening/closing

After all of the stuffing around fitting the last pair of guards - the panel beater wants to glue the glass guards on to go for the original look (no bolts) - good idea - so we decided to start again. I'm lucky that I have quite a few sets of new glass guards, so out of interest I decided to try them all on the shell - they are all out of the same mould but interestingly some fitted easier (not better) than others. So we selected the best (easiest) pair for the job. They sat on and it was obvious that they will require little work - certainly a lot less than the  first pair we bolted on. I guess the lesson is - every shell/glass guard is different and if u are going to use glass and CAN try a few different guards on it - do it.
these pics show the new guards just plonked on - he'll adjust, trim and glue them.
