Pewter capri

That v6 capri on ebay ( in Broome) the paint code is K (wild plum?) but the trim code is F - the trim appears to be red - but red trim and wild plum? hmmm.... (the bonnet etc - is 1972, seats are low backs so >71)

Hi spud, are you interested in adding it to the collection?

From what I can find, for a 1971 Capri paint code K is Frosted Pewter (not a common colour I would think). You can see remnants of it below the compliance plate.

Not a bad colour on a Falcon, but would be interesting to see how it looked on a Capri.

That color makes more sense of the red interior - but ive never seen it before (wonder how many there were?) never seen a red interior in low backs, and an auto....

Guys, from the Chassis/engine number CK17LS15188P, this Capri was built in 1971 (L), July (S) which means that the K code paint could in fact be Frosted Pewter, an extremely rare colour used in 1971 (only 5 XY GTs got that colour, a bit like Silver Fox from 1970 (Code = 8)). Just for your interest, the XW Falcon (1970) K code for paint was Starlight Blue and Spud is right with the 1972 paint colour code K which was Wild Plum. As for the seats, I always thought that the low backs weren't phased out until mid 1971 which is confirmed by this July model, unless it's had a seat change which seems highly unlikely as there aren't that many Capri's with red seats and in Broome a seat change?, mmmm. The trim code F for the seats is in fact Dark Red. And yes, I know it says 8/71 on the ID plate, but that happened a lot, one month on the chassis number and a different month stamped on the actual ID plate! Cheers, Terry

I did buy it - bit of a risk given the pics available but very happy with it

I took the original globes off and have placed them aside as all of the tyres were flat. I had these mags lying around so ...
Took a bit to get it started. I fitted off another distributor and water pump, the fuel line had a blockage. But when it did start - all was well. Apparently the original owner brought it new in WA, only a few years ago did his son take it on, but gave up, then the guy I purchased it off. The engine and auto have been reco'ed - no smoke, good oil pressure. New shocks had been fitted to her.

this is a pic of the shock - very nice. The inner guards are as clean as a cucumber

anyway, The bottoms of both guards had been welded to the sills - a nasty repair as it turned out - on both sides. So ive cleaned up both sides. All of the original lines are back...

moved her to the shed now and resurrected the passengers side

well everything is out, some sundry welding and the engine bay will be ready for painting. This shed is getting full of capri stuff and so to clean up a bit i want to paint the bay first, fit off the engine and trans and front end - mostly in an effort to clean up...

I partially stripped the engine down when it was out - fitted a new cam gear - in case. Checked the welsh plugs, but they were like new. Actually, I am using an electronic distributor ill take pics later - mainly because the old one was dead and this one was lying around. Ive cleaned the auto up and the engine ready for the re fit. Ive replaced the timing cover - the fan bearing was shot. (the exhaust is nearly new)

I have another v6 capri (interior pictured here) which ill use as a donor car for the moment. (ill fix it up at a later date). The crash pads in the pewter one are just lovely but some sundry interior stuff is missing - the console, dash fascia, parcel shelf, radio etc are all original in this one and ill transfer them over.

also the donor car still has its original paint work - so ill make up a template off the black out on its bonnet - for painting to the pewter one.
