Thanks Paul, That makes sense. So, as a starting point for an engine build should you select the cam first and then build the engine to suit? Cheers, Matt

Matt75 Thanks Paul, That makes sense. So, as a starting point for an engine build should you select the cam first and then build the engine to suit? Cheers, Matt The starting point is working out what you want to do with it, then you build your whole engine package to suit. Making everything work together is the key, not just picking one component. Thats what will give you the best power for your needs. In regard to your previous statement in regard to balancing, the more you play around with stroking etc, the more cost is involved in balancing to get it back where it needs to be. So the cost in balancing goes up compared to normal. Cheers Woz

Matt75 Here is a thread on TurboSport about longer rods with shorter pistons. Cheers, Matt You will note what he says in relation to port size and rod ratio, and also note that a Pinto has an oversized inlet port to begin with. You will also note that the 5.7" rod he refers to is being used with alloy heads to get big power with a specially desgined port and cam to suit the longer rod, neither of which is relavant to your conversion. He would also appear to be just reading what other people are writing, and not doing his own developement work. What works with one engine may not work on another. It's about getting the right COMBINATION of parts to make it work correctly as I stated previously. Any one thing out of your combination thats not right will cost you power. Woz

Hey Mate, 3.820" bore size is 97mm so don't think it would fit would it? I think the max is around 93mm for a pinto isn't it? Look good though. Woz, Let me see if I get this right. The longer rod length of 5.7 would really only be suited to a screaming race engine with a port job to match the rod length and cam to match? Cheers Matt
