I used normal Pinto rods...shot peened/polished etc. Another way is to find a std 6cyl 200ci XA Ford motor and pinch 4x pistons and rods from it....though 94mm will be borderline as whether to fit sleeves, the Big ends are smaller allowing for some offset action if i remember correctly....dont quote me on this !

Matt, got mine done by Cavehill Engines in Lilydale. L24 rods, TR Magna pistons, offset ground crank. (03)9739-5878 Stu Craig.

Thanks for that Craig, Interesting, I haven't heard of using the L24 rods before. What capacity did this combo give you once completed, and what head work did you have done as well? What is the engine used for? As I am just getting some info together for now what was the rough cost for the botom end machining? You can PM if you prefer. Cheers, Matt

I just let Stu do all the thinking, measuring & machining. He worked out the combination & does everything except balancing in-house. I had the engine built in 2006 with the intention of using for club track days but so far have not done one. Achieved a capacity of 2121cc. Big valve head, double valve springs etc. I reckon it's a great thing to do. Craig.

Thanks Craig, My cousin works for FPV and builds the race engines for the V8's so i'll have a chat to him. I still like the idea of going down this road but will have to do a bit more homework. Cheers Matt

I just had a look at my file about my pinto build, i remember back when i was doing mine Craig sent me details of his buid which were very helpfull, my information is that L16 and L24 rods are the same length both133mm, with these you will need a piston with a comp height of 34mm, i used 92mm pistons but im led to believe you can go as far as 94mm but i wouldnt advise that. The longer rod and shorter comp height piston also helps dwell angles etc etc, dunno but the engine seems to rev nicely. I also made the comp ratio about 11:1 and got some gapless rings too.. It all sounds good dosent it...:) Yet the output is way short of any modern engine, still it is what it s.

Hi Paul, My understanding is that stroking will increase the torque but lower the revs. A Zetec conversion will cost me around the $4k mark including engine and fitting kit so I supppose I need to weigh up the benefits of the newer engine as opposed to the work involved in modifying the pinto. I do like the pinto for originality reasons. Cheers Matt

Nothing crazy, just a few track days. If I wanted to go full on racing I would stick to the under 2000cc. As I have said before I am just after info as I haven't made up my mind yet. Cheers, Matt

Much easier to convert and mess around with something that isn't going to see much time on the road if any. If you want a stroker engine, do it.

Cheers, Matt Just remember that even for club level track days you are still classed by engine capacity and level of vehicle modification. A stroker will put you in the over 2 litre classes. Of course, the scrutineers won't know, but it only takes one disgruntled competitor to dob you in!
