Rocker Cover Baffle
Hi Guys, I have just painted a spare rocker cover I have lying around and have noticed it doesn;t have the baffle under the oil filler. Will it work well without the baffle or should I use the one with it? Cheers Matt

Oil will spew out the filler cap

spew out ... for real ? these must of come on the earlier model pinto'd Escorts.. so they must of worked for road going duties maybe not for a track car

I doubt it would spew oil out of the filler cap unless the o-ring is stuffed. It will fill the air cleaner with oil very fast though, which will go through the carby.

Baffle is there for a reason...[;^)]
That said, my alloy cover doesn't have a baffle and didn't loose oil even with a crossdrilled cam...

I must be missing something here.
Why would you paint inside the rocker cover?
Its OK to paint inside the block to assist with oil draining down the side howwever that is stable cast iron and there is a particlar paint you use.
But wouldn't the paint eventually start to flake off the inside as the rocker cover was taken on and off (flexed)plus heated up and cooled down? And then get in the oil, bearings etc
Good luck getting flakes of paint out of the oil galleries, oil pump etc.

The factory paints them so why wouldn't you? The rocker cover had paint flaking inside the cover and some surface rust. I removed all paint with a wire wheel and used heat proof paint. I have done it many times in past. What other option would you take? Cheers, Matt

I didn't think they were painted inside at all.
Looking at your pics it appears the untouched one was painted but I would be guessing its a baked finsih or maybe even anodised?
I have always thought the insides on my cars were unpainted and just dark from the baked on oil.
I have put together 2 engines now and simply used paint stripper on the insides of the rocker cover and taken them back to bare metal. Neither of them got any rust on them, no doubt due to the spray of oil going on side the cover area.
In a previous life I had Falcon GT's and the inside of the rocker covers on them were always bare steel (again always covered in oil so no rust issues).
I think factory sumps are also bare metal?
Cheers

I have always painted mine, but what you are saying makes sense.
Maybe i'll just leave the inside unpainted.
Cheers

I didn't think people connected them to air filters still?? Everytime I revved the piss out of mine the cap came off[(#)]

Do you ever have problems with the paint coming off ? I've heard of block internals being painted to seal the casting but that's with special paint.

Yep,
Just the heat proof engine paint you get in the can.
