my 2ltr, stripdown and build

i haven't decided what im goign to do just yet, but im either going to gather up all the funds i can, and rebuild this one right off, because im going to get the head shaved and dipped too, buy another engine, get the car back on the road, rebuild a "tuff" street engine later, or (least likely) buy a poo pooty engine, put it in, if it turns out to be in decent nick, chuck all my go fast bits on that engine and leave that for a while.

bottom end knock/clack, and screeching/whining from the cam,

found con rods 2 and 4 to have play to the crankshaft (yeah)

all 3 cam bearings and burnt out and flaking slightly, cam lobes have had it, rockers look even worse, all these filings and flakes of metal had collected in the sump, which is why im skeptical that the peices of metal are all throughout the oil galleries too,

i really cant put my finger on what had happened? some say bad rocker geometry or incorrectly adjusted rockers, mine were noisy as f*ck, but what about the bottom end? the knocking sound became noticeable, and then ridiculously loud within a week.

ill throw some pics in here later, and keep updating with whatever i end up doing, because involving plan 1 and 2, are professional machining, home assembly.

theres a wrecker nearby that had a mk4 cortina with a 2ltr in it, after the easter weekend ill see if they still have it & what they want for the engine. theres NONE on ebay!!!

since its your daily id check out that cortina engine and if it runs ok chuck it in as is or at least rebuild to stock specs. during that time rebuild your current one into your "worked" engine. No need to have a crazy daily driver escort.

well funny you guys mentioned oil, because that was exactly it.

the flange that connects the oil PICK UP to the OIL PUMP had no bolts holding it in!

1 of the bolts i found in the sump when i removed it, the other one has disappeared.

so yeah, oil pump was sucking up oil vapours and bugger all oil.

nah haven't gone through with any yet. i was offered one in Sydney so if all else fails i could just get that shipped down.

or the mk4 cortina or mk1 transit are hopefully still at the wreckers, might steal there donks,

wiring must not be working, or i hooked it up to the wrong wire.

Sterling, I have a 2 ltr that requires a rebuild Its pretty much complete and I used to drive it back and forwards to work each day til it lost compression. If you want it your welcome to it, but you will have to pick it up from my house. which as your aware is a fair hike. cheers Kieran

that also looks like a cortina pickup ? if it's not shortened it don't think it allows enough clearance in an escort sump ???, something to double check , also the std oil pressure light only comes on at around 5-7psi so it would explain the light not coming on and still stuffing the motor

yeah it is a cortina pickup, im using a cortina sump with 8mm? engine mount spacers.
