Haha, it was good fun removing that panel[:(!]!! Just a few pointers if you decide to build a rotissery.. 1. get the car as level as possible on the ground, measure the gap from the front sill to the ground then the rear sill to ground, do all 4 (L/R). 2. use atleast 2.5mm wall thickness RHS for latteral strength. 3. make the car spindles level, front and rear. The height it approx 1/3 the way up the height of the car (this works with most cars) for better balance. 4. The ground supports need to be atleast 1mitre high or you may scrape the roof on the ground!! 5. Use a proper welder with lots of heat, mine was set on 170amps, just about flat out!! we wouldn't want to see a fallen car land on anyone. if your unsure of the welds, weld gussets onto it for extra strength, remember its holding a car at any angle of 360degs, lots of stresses going on. 6. big smiles and beers when it actually works

here is bit more of an update, i have replaced the lower radiator panel and widened the 'mouth' behind the grill at the same time, also removed the crank handle bump too ! there was also a huge rust spot where the battery used to live, i cut it out and replaced with newer metal,(EA Ford wagon roof panel lasts for years as repair steel), i welded this in from under the guard so less to grind back in the engine bay. This was todays effort, made a box from 2.5mm flat and shaped to sit next to the strut tower, this will be my strut brace mounting. the strut brace is an ally item raided from the rear towers of a '03 Subaru WRX, i paid $50 on ebay inc post!! I'm not keen on the Whiteline braces, seems too much flex in the mountings which defeats the purpose of having a strutbrace...unless for looks only! Another 2wks and the engine bay should be in 2pk primer, only some bulkhead mods to do and then i'll move to the floor pan rust !

Hi Marty
What did you think of the guys from da beth (Adelaide slang for you interstater's) who did you blasting ?
Being in SA im looking for someone to do my shell. Have heard some horror stories though of straight quater panels coming back warped to hell from guys blasting the crap out of them and buckleing them.
Sweet build though mate!

Hi, i took it there as its close to home and was the cheapest around, most others charge $700+ now. The quality was ok but the forgot to do the underneath so it went back again ! My 1st car was done at Salisbury, A1 Grit Blasters on Stanbel rd, he done a really good job on the mk1 Escort .

Ahh not much progress to add, i've been doing a refit in my back shed fabricating a proper strong workbench, 4m long x 1m wide, mainly to hide my new 22cfm compressor! I also left Holdens a few wks ago..i'm so glad i dont see them horrid cars anymore !! For people in Adelaide, i noticed this TV add which is for 'scrap' metal....look at this car, worth saving!!
