205 blocks

Hi guys a couple of quick questions
Witch fords were sold in oz with 205 blocks?
How much would ya expect to pay for a 205 block?
What would be the average going price on an every day running pinto?

Lucky bugger one of those would be easy to spot at a wreckers i guess   
So what about mk4&5 Cortinas were they 205's?????? 

I have a mk1 escort that has a very,very good mild Xflow that will keep me happy....FOR NOW
So I thought I would slowly start collecting bits and pieces for a pinto.
2.1 litre(hence 205 block qurries)
Group 1 head(depending on $)
Fast road cam  
Bike carbs
I know the bike TB's arnt everybodys cup of tea but I just love the look of bike carbs on the side of an engine, Im aiming for something with no less than 150hp, just over would be a bonus
So I guess another BIG question might be weather i could get this sort of power from using 40mm TB's? (Most seem to be 40mm R1's etc)

I think there is a degree of conjecture as to whether a 205 block is required for a NA pinto is there not????

 
Yep, not required.  You can hand pick blocks to bore them .080" as well.  Just find a good std block,

I use td-te Cortina Pinto engines.
They usually run an auto gearbox and have a zero bore size, so you can offset the crank.

OK thanks guys,It was something that a lot of the sites i have been looking at on the subject of tuning pintos all seemed to agree on, is that after you have the 93mm bore the 205 has a thicker wall left than the std pinto block. Most claimed that that was the way to go.

If you hand pick the right standard block you'll get .100"+ comfortably for an N/A application.  Different for big power turbo and big bore, thats when the 205 block is needed.  For the extra expense of finding a 205 block its not really worth it.  Even if you had to sacrifice engine capacity (eg: say you ended up with 2080 or 2060cc) its really not worth chasing the extra 20 or 40cc, it will gain you stuff all in power, the money is better spent elsewhere if you want more power.

i just must be lucky , have only ever had 3 blocks and they have all been 205's lol. pretty sure i have one here atm , not for sale though , will be powering my mkII 2 door. wont be taking it to its max bore either , not worth doing for a nice road car. Will be making up performance with Kent cam kit , suspension , brakes and ratio's .
