WC X MEMBER + TYPE 9 = PROBLEM

HEY GUYS,

I have just installed my worldcup x member and type 9 onto my Pinto powered MK2 escort.

Problem = The tail of the box tops out on the roof on the gearbox tunnel (just near leaver) and I cant lower it as the front edge of sump is hard up and resting on the rear of the world cup x member. I'm thinking i might have to releive the contact by increasing the hight of the gear box tunnel where required. (Link to unit below) Also fowling on drivers side of bell housing....Shell all painted. :( dont want to be doing too much cutting.

Has anyone come accross this problem and found a fix?

any advice would be much appreciated.

it seem to me that theres an alignment problem either mtr up or g/box down no dought youve loosened all bolts and with the aid of a spirit level check to see which way the mtr/g/box wants to go is the x member in the right way? maybe the g/box mount isnt riteyou might need spacers in the g/box support area i think that yopuve already thought of these possibilitis

I think the only practical way you will fix this without cutting the shell is with the engine mounts.

Problems with World Cup Crossmembers are common and usually relate to the VERY wide variation in engine mounts supplied. If you measure how much clearance you have between the sump and cross member , any decent welding shop will make up mounts for you patterned off what you have but XXX mm down and XX mm back / forward etc.

I am assuming the engine moumnts are on the right way round, don't laugh, I have seen more than one car where the engine mounts were fitted the wrong way round (wrong side).
