Pinto engine no.

I have got myself a 2L engine but know nothing about it real origins. It came out of a MK3 Capri which is suppose to have come from N.Z.,it has a 5 speed gearbox which has "88 Sierra" written on it in blue marker pen the previous owner Thought it may not been original in the Capri the No's cast on the side are

C8S1A
205
85HM6015BB

Can anyone decipher the No's please

John

That is a 205 Cosworth/Pinto block (hence it says 205 on it probably in large numbers). Was not sold new in Australia but I am not sure about NZ. Possibly was as they had the later model Escorts in their market.

These were used in Sierra's (2WD I believe) which had a type 9 5 speed gearbox attached. Couldnt tell you if a Mk3 Capri used this block - I doubt it. The block casting number 85xxxx indicates the pattern was first cast in 1985 so the block dates from that time forwards up till probably around 1990 whn the 200 block was released.

I think I speak truths here. There are far more knowledgeable people here who can gently correct me if need be.

thanks for that some info is better than none. The engine is now in pieces with the head away getting converted to unleaded and the block is being checked. The mechanic is hoping to just hone it and reassemble with standard pistons & bottom end & put a better cam in. He is very impressed with how clean it all is there is no sludge any where, but it is all taking to long[:-(]
