LPG escort? rebate?

Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone here is running LPG in their escort?
I've been working at a company that both test and recondition tanks for a while now and the more I think about it, it would make sense to do the conversion. I have access to all sorts of sized tanks, (and free gas) and could get the convertor and lines etc quite easily. I figure a throttle body style system would work quite well?

With the rebate still at $1500, I figure it wouldn't cost me a cent, if anything, I should probably come out on top.

Has anyone gone through the lpg rebate process, on their escort or otherwise????

Thanks, Shaun

i have seen a few around.
you could keep down draught weber and get a mixer ring off a XD/E/F that sits between carb and manifold. can get a photo of one.
orrrr, get a normal gas ring and use plenum- http://www.webcon.co.uk/images/9990076100.jpg

Shaun, I don't think the rebate will apply to systems installed by a person or individual. All LPG work needs to be certified and the installer usually gets the rebate paid to them after you have paid for the gap and the job is complete.

In saying that, I had a 2litre Mk2 Panel Van on straight gas. Elko did a kit for it and was an easy install. I ran it for about 4 years 120k's a day. Only problem I had was tappet adjustment as the valves were eating into the head. You would know when adjustment was needed as the car would become more and more gutless up hills.

    Craig,

Grants are eligable to owners of the vehicle directly, either through the gov, centrelink or medibank it's just that most gas fitters have over inflated their prices accordindly and as such, claim the grant themselves as part of their payment plans. You do need to provide reciepts of purchase for the items used in the conversion and certification dates to prove it was within the given dates.

I'm pretty sure you are able to install and fit your own lpg system,(I will be check tomorrow) provided it is within the guidelines and is inspected and signed for by an authorised inspector. At worst, I could run all the lines, convertor and tank and have them connect the ends, much the same as when rewiring your house/garage and getting the sparky in to 'finish it off'

I have read on a few forums where people have carried out the conversion using second hand parts for a profit, (falcoons and conformodores), I was just wondering if anyone here had any first hand experience, escort or otherwise.

James, falcon style mixer would be very, very easy, otherwise I have an old gas research throttle body that I could adapt to the sierra intake. It was originally on a vk inlet in an EH.

My RS runs dedicated gas on a Gas Research system, but unfortunately I converted it before the rebate system came in... All up it cost me $350 to convert including certification (not what you know sometimes, but who...)

Everyone asks why - but ...Around town 450km for $30 gas... In the country about $600km from the tank..... And it was driven daily until earlier this year.

Setup right there is no reason why the car should be a slug. My tow car is a 100 Series cruiser, it pulls stronger on gas than petrol (I'm running a gas injection system)
