Thanks Lee, yes im very happy with the steering wheel, although is was a tad expensive i dont regret it at all.

Whats you plan? there is not much to an escort interior so can be hard to really spruse up. Im actually looking at changing the stereo to one of these. Although its a solid expense for not much gain really.

Thanks Drew, i had a look at your cortina thread a while back and looks like after these updates the car is definitely  on the right track, Aldrigde really seem to be top of the game in trimming.

Hopefully the suspension upgrades will help the itch for a bit, id love to spruce up the braking department after but tend to fall into the trap of ill just do a small upgrade, next minute im looking at AP kits etc. If only the bank was endless.

I recently had a heavy paint correction done on the car, i knew it was a backyard paint job (although done by a retired painter by trade) and had heavy buffing swirls throughout the car. Also being red without a clear coat parts of the car would turn out pinkish when in the sun. It ended up turning into a bit of a beast but after 30hrs of work it has come up a treat, its really changed the colour, it feels like the car it should be. Of course the only camera i have is attached from my iphone so the photos really do not speak to the change and commitment shown by the detailer.

Managed to pick up the ultimate wheels ive wanted for the escort. Other then some bbs e30s

First off thanks to Paul for the million questions ive fired at him over the last week or two

Simmons v4, its not all smooth sailing though. They are way too wide so ive pulled them apart and hit another snag. There is a 63mm flange on the escort front and rear hubs where else the center holes on the simmons are 57mm. Perhaps not originally built for a small ford. Pcd checks out at 108 tho.

Ill speak to some machining places in the following weeks and see if they can mill in some space for me, then i wont need to run spacers etc. Once i can mount them up flush ill be able to measure what i can fit under the guards.

Cheers

Robbie

I would offer to lathe the centres out but my lathe isn't big enough ! We've got a huge one at work but that's kinda broken šŸ˜ž.

Not much has been happening, i brought repo indicator and washer stalks to freshen up the interior a bit. Also my washers would go off with the slightest touch which drove me nuts and now my indicators turn off like they should once cornering is complete.

Hopefully getting the Simmons into a machine shop this week to be able to mount them flush. Spoke to a mate who is running the same set and he has used 5 inch inners 3 inch outers and is happy with fitment so will see how i go but also allows me to use my current inners and just purchase new outers. Guess ill have to save up for the raping simmons may be about to give me.

One problem i can foresee, with the grp4 extended studs on my new front suspension it wont work with the older shank style wheel nut so they will need to be trimmed down so i can swap wheels when desired.

Attended another coffee and cars with some mates, Same evo X as last time and another mate dusted off his evo wagon.

Unfortunately not much has been happening on the car front, chasing oil leaks.

I mentioned earlier about losing a large volume of gearbox oil from the back of the extension housing, replaced the seal but that didnt fix the issue so had the mechanic pull the box out and inspect. It seems the extension housing had lost or never had its small lip about an inch or two into the housing. When you run your finger around you would feel the lip ovalize. We changed the housing, put in new bush and seal, yoke and uni and it seems to have done the job.

Unfortunately while doing this we noticed i have a cortina sump on the car which is now rattling on my crossmember on start up etc, there are some spacer in there but it doesnt seem to be doing the job so i think we will need to change that in not too distant future.

Fixing the small issue is priority then i can move onto fitting all the suspension gear.

Photos from the detailer as i have nothing much else.

Slowly plugging away.

Simmons are slowly coming together, i may have to downsize the fronts to 6.5 due to strut clearance on the bilstein coilovers.

Ive sent the car in for the suspension work, its holding good company.

Sump will be next. One job at a time.

Car is back, fitted the Front grp4 suspension, anti dive, 22mm front sway bar, all new bushes, rear king low leafs and bilstein shocks. After some discussion i went with 225lb front springs, i was pretty anxious as i wasnt sure if they would be too stiff and make the car some what non road friendly. The front end feels alot nicer and not overly stiff at all. Atm its great but i also feel like a bump up in spring rate if the cars focus moves more towards the track. The rear feels great, firmer when pushing but very compliant on the typical road bumps etc.

One issue we ran into was grp4 struts did not include the brake line clip so we upgraded to some braided lines to keep it all nice neat. Very happy with the car now, its so much more enjoyable to drive.
