Well that will teach me for ignoring the old girl. Noticed some coolant stains on the drive way. Assuming I’m on borrowed time here? Luckily I’ve done two 19 hour over time shifts this week.

I think so, we’ll enough to leak while sitting so I guess won’t get any better while driving.
Guess I find a replacement! Marty want to teach me how to swap it out?

Replacement radiator is on its way from GRP4, Aus distributor had it on stock and was in the mail same day. I topped up the coolant and took it for a spin yesterday, after driving the landcruiser the escort felt like a rocket ship! After leaving it for 24 hours it hasnt leaked anymore onto the driveway floor but can see more spots popping up around the welds on the cooler. Anyway, heres a throw back because people dont just want words.

New radiator arrived, looks well made and cost wise was in the middle of a ebay spec and pwr options so kinda happy i guess. Ordered a 16psi stant cap, but who knows when that will arrive in the current times. Things to note if your ocd is as bad as mine, youll need bung for a temp sensor - Pirtec had this on the shelf i believe its m22x1.5 (i cant find part number later and put it up - might help someone someday). Also to have the cap fully tight it puts it off centre, the wings, this is totally nothing to worry about but looks odd. Ill post photos once its installed. Unfortunately all this will have to wait till the new year, might actually get mike to install that LSD ive left laying around at his workshop for over a year now. In other news, loving the landcruiser although its costing me a fortune getting it up to spec where im happy. Oh well lucky my work doesnt shut down over xmas

Very nice radiator you've got there👍. While the diff centre is getting attended to, order a set of anti tramp bars to be fitted at the same time

Whats it doing in the kitchen Robbie? I went for one of the GRP4 (Millington safari spec) rads even though they are are meant for NA YB's in Escorts, they are big core capacity. Plus with no intercooler in front of this one and being a track car only air flow will be no issue. They tigged in the turbo cooling fitting to my specs. Where the intercooler will go I'm still figuring out. I really don't want an air/water setup. I know they have the radiator/intercooler combos but I really didn't want to hack the front of the car (this is a flat nose MK2 escort) Price wise with delivery etc, it worked out around the same as a custom made PWR unit. Once I'm in recovery after surgery I'll spend some time getting a thread going with pics. Mark

New radiator is in, rad fitted well but the outlet was different by a bit compared to the old one so mike had to make a spacer to extend the top rad hose, if id notice it before hand i would have organized a longer replacement. oh well, im surprised my ocd doesnt get triggered by it as much. Also 2 years later the LSD is in also, we changed the ratio to a 3.89 as well. Ive never had a lsd before so the chattering is going to take some getting use to. Cant wait to see the misses reaction to that shes going think something is broken. It feels a bit zipper and the lsd keeps the rear end really planted through the corners, just feels like ive got more grip. Other then the noise pretty happy with it. Added my own resto mod touch to the diff tag.

Hey Robbie, glad you've moved up a notch with the LSD. Yeah the clunking is a bit worrying at the beginning but you'll get used to it.. just remember your car wants to steer differently especially in the wet, just be ready for real happy fun. With mine it used to lightly understeer and then get some oversteer but my setup was with skinny 185 x 13 wheels, very predictable . Enjoy 👍 Tramp bars next??

Thanks Marty! i imagine it will be some fun in the wet, although if i took it out today i would have needed to be a boat!
Im thinking my attention needs to move towards brakes, i do still have the pedal box to go in or was even thinking spaced and widen the standard calipers with some better pads. Who knows, i do like overly flashy bits on the car and some AP calipers are flashy.

Didn't it just bucket down today, you know it'll be bad when magpies are sandbagging their nests !!
Brakes are a touchy subject, maybe get the question out there to see what others use and ideas.
My mk2 has 2.8i vents with Volvo 264 4 spot calipers with taxi pads, machined down Volvo sold front rotors on the rear with Mazda 626 calipers and handbrake, the master is Cortina TE with the booster removed and a bias tap inline to the rear, it was my daily driver and driven hard most times . My mk1 van with a zetec has Chrysler pt cruiser front rotors (280mm) and Wilwood NDL 4 spot calipers, no idea on performance as the van isn't running yet The orange Mex had a rally design 285 Wilwood brake kit, that was good value..
