Even both 4's look different style fonts? surely the guy at ford would have used the same No 4 stamping punch?

who knows what happened? Look at the quality of the stamping in general to put it in some context. Unsolved mysteries of the world: -Easter Island statues -Stonehenge - Crop Circles - Ford body Stamping let it go son, it had a good life.

Don't get sucked in fellas. I still have the sms in my phone where another 4cyl stamp was shown to him on 4th Dec showing different size lettering after which he was still begging to buy the car.....with paypal. Deep down he knows the car is genuine which is why he is so bent out of shape. So far there have only been 2 claims, bonnet pins emails and fake stamp, no prize for guessing who sent me the bonnet pins emails. If there are no other claims about the car happy for mods to close the thread.

GTV6 dont kid yourself ...your Capri will always have doubts ....I wouldn't have your car even if you gave it to me for free , its been sus right from the start and you know it, you spend half your time trying to justify this & that about it , but the facts remain its got issue mate, no wonder you wanted to sell it . As for the bonnet pins ...you weren't even sure if they were original or not, it was my son that picked it out so stop talking crap ...instead of hurling your BS via here why dont you man up and call me in person??? Gutless thats why. I know and you know that strut tower stamping of yours is fake. Your Capri will always have shadows and its not just my view but others on this forum , but they are staying out of it and I will respect that. You should be greatful that someone is trying to sell your car for 10K on the web.... there being over generous :) ohhhhh but be weary if they wanna buy it using paypal ...not paypal please its sooooo corrupt ...WAKE UP GTV6

Sorry but my pic shows original stamping. You can tell it’s a poverty pack to start with. The strut top has more of the same. Anything happened at ford back in the day. I do think older cars are worse off though. Seem to have got their **** together when everything was moved off the slam panel. I know adding doubt is not helpful, but I doubt ford gave the job to a team who cared. Who knows but many mistakes we all have seen. How many times do we see engine and transmission stamped next to each other in the wrong spot. Info is better than verbal BS. My pic shows that.

I know they( Ford Factory) were pretty ordinary back then..but surely they would have had the same font & size "4" stamp beside them otherwise more of these mistakes would be popping up , as I said I have seen a fair few and none had different size number fonts ...letters yes I have seen it all the time..but all the numbers I have ever seen have always been 3/8"

Ha ha so now the back flip begins. Not only does Wiggys stamp have small 4's, they are also different font and oh dear me, the one on the right is the same shape as mine, short and wider. Then there's the lack of grind marks and pitting consistent with age.

jejeje back flips?? , Grind marks??? ...thanks for bringing that up take a good look at yours DH your strut tower has two layers & is stepped down, unless someone else can supply their numbers with 2 x fonts I still wont be convinced and if they do ... I have learnt one thing from all this ....if there are so many inconsistencies in stamps & fonts & sizes with our Capri's identification ...there is no such thing as a genuine "Matching numbers "car as anyone with number/letter stamps, a grinder , spare panels , welder and half a brain can make a matching numbers car providing they have an original ID aluminium plate to start off with .

Wrong again. The step you talk about is the grease that is protecting it. Small font numbers were common on capris.....hint....have a look at the LH strut top. The 1 has a unique curve at the top. Tooling costs would make unlikely that anyone in the UK would reproduce that 48 years later. Time for you to take your own advice and man up and admit that you got it horribly wrong.

GTV6 gtcapri Can you two take this petty crap elsewhere. You are both ruining the forum for everyone. Either that or one of you stand up and be a bigger person and chose to stop responding so this thread can end!

Ohhh so its ok to have different Fonts & sizes for the 4's BUT the 1 is unique huh...5 mins on google and I found correct fonts & size even the 7 has the correct curve ...so you see anyone can get hold of them , I'm sure there are plenty of öld Skool"engineering shops in any State that would also have them in the tool boxes, you guys are telling me there is no set standard so why put the emphasis on the "unique "curve of the number 1 ?...try again mate

Mate its far from petty, he has publically accused me of rebirthing a car so I think it's fair for me to publically defend it. Unlike him my real name is on this forum. If it bores you don't read it.

Hey we are all learning from this , isn't that what forums are for? :) Hey...GTV6 you named the post "Shadows" not me , nahhhh I never stated you rebirthed it ...but someone in its past life did , and now your stuck with her , but dont be too hard on yourself ..shes still a Capri and a nice one at that , and thats all that matters in the long run...just dont go Putting adds on the net emphasizing "MATCHING NUMBERS ", because from the feedback I,m getting on this forum there are too many discrepancies with the ID stamping on our beloved Capris so Matching numbers anyone can alter & modify and you cant go wrong ....any stamp and font any size any style will do as there are no SET STANDARDS according to the gurus on this forum ( thanks to those slacker FORD workers from the late 60;s to early 70's ) , so basically I have learnt a few things I didnt know before from all this forum tennis match one being .... that Matching Numbers as far as our Capris go doesnt mean diddly Squat !!!
