What would you guys say a "record price" is for a restored Capri?
I would guess at least high $40's. Have a look at sold section on aussie muscle car sales. A wild violet with 10 year old paint, cracked dash listed for $48500 marked as sold.

I have seen this Capri in tassie at a car show, it was the Shannons Hobart Car Show last year. I have a few photos of it I will dig out.
It certainly is the best Capri I have seen and a credit to its owner in particular to the level of detail. Could this be the best restored to original Capri in Australia?
I do recall it won several trophies at that show.
I am sure somebody spent a significant amount of time and money restoring it. It would have to valued at $50k plus maybe closer $60k.

Hi guys , just wanted to know why some V6 capri vin numbers ( stamps letter & numbers) are so different from capri to capri?
Some numbers on the front of the car ( not the strut tower ) have small font letters & then large numbers , some have a few small font letters & some are large? there doesnt seem to be much consistency ???
Did they just grab whatever stamp was laying on their work bench regardless of font size??

I see no rhyme or reason for the way their stamped. Some had an asterisk some didn’t. The shock tower was stamped on the motor side in 1971 and1972 on the front headlight side. So much variation but that’s just the unique thing with older cars.

Wow looks like I am bit off the current values of Capri's
I was looking at spending $15 to maybe $20k max.
Shame the orange one from Tas not for sale, the lead I had on a car in Tas has also come to dead end.
Back to searching for me.

The only thing that beats HORSEPOWER is TORQUE. You can sleep in your car but u cant race your house. 1972 V6 DELETE

Nothing wrong with having champagne taste on beer budget .You could still get V6 for 20k you will just have to pour another 20k+ into it ..LOL

Really all Capri shell prices are now up around $10k starting price and probably selling for 7 to 8k. A car needing work that’s well looked after might be at 20 to 25k. A fully mint restored one now like say Ron’s small ford one I put at around 40 to 50k. I think that’s reasonable after looking now at any replacement parts for them. If it was driveable but modified interior wise it would be less of coarse but a good representation of a factory car fully overhauled has to be at the 40k mark now.

The Wild Violet V6 sold on Carsales went for high $40's so the values are up there. Will of course depend on the quality of the resto, desirability factor and finding a keen buyer. Good news that are cars are valued I say.

This would be my guess at costs which would make buying a non matching numbers shell a bad investment unless you can do panel and paint yourself.
Engine 6000 (based in my actual costs a few years ago)
Door cards 1000
Dash restore 1200
Rust 10000
Paint 15000 (based on quote)
Wheels 2000
Suspension 1000
Brakes 1000
Seals 1000
Seat trim 1500
diff/gearbox 1500
chrome 3000
carpets, badges, bits and pieces 1000
That said personally I would never pay top dollar for someone else's resto either because there are so many shortcuts that can be taken.

I think they paid a bit more than that for it.
There was a rumour getting around it sold for closer to $70k.
Yep it is big bucks for a Capri but it is probably one of the best if not the best restored Capri in OZ.
The attention to detail to the guy who restored it was ridiculous he must have spent a fortune on the paint job as it looked amazing.
The car was also low milage and had full ownership history.
