Kent 1600 hesitation

Hi hoping someone can help me or recommend a workshop/mechanic in Sydney.
I have a mk2 escort with a Kent crossflow it has the Weber 32/36. The problem is that when accelerating it feels like the car hesitates for a few seconds and then power comes on. I have done general maintenance like spark plugs, filters, carb cleaner and set timing according to manual. I am using a fuel additive with 98. Is there anything else I can check and does anyone know of a good mechanic in Sydney?

    sounds like accelerator pump diaphragm, or stuck advance weights in your distributor.  The Autolite/Lucas distributors on the early kent motors are very well known for wearing out their base plates.  Also check timing chain tensioner

    Is it a 32/36 that is jetted for a 1600 or is it straight off a pinto?
     
    I would check to make sure the vacuum secondaries are not opening too soon. I had it on my pinto a while ago (when it had a carby). It would give a loss of power off the line and if a major change in acceleration was needed.

    The 32/36 is a mechanical progressive carby and as such the secondary is opened by your foot. It is not controlled by vacuum.
     
    gtv6capri is more than likely on the money. Accelerator pump failure.
     
    Remove the air filter so you can look down the throat of the carby, and while looking down the throat, with the engine not running, rotate the throttle shaft and you should see a jet of fuel being squirted into the primary barrel, and only the primary. The secondary barrel should not get a squirt. If there's no jet of fuel being squirted into the primary barrel, then your accelerator pump is not working. Most likely cause would be the diaphragm is buggered, so replace it and it should be good to go. Could also be a blockage in the jet or carby passages, though I have never seen this.

    I had a similar problem with my 32/36 on a GT manifold; turned out that the issue was a kink in the throttle cable.
     
    The long version is that the throttle cable bracket seemed to be too short for the throttle cable, or visa-versa; so when in use the cable would kink often. I found that the plastic clip which holds the carb linkage into the throttle cable bracket had come loose and simply needed to be re-attached; this aligned the cable in the bracket appropriately.

    Thanks all for your suggestions. Ended up getting the carb serviced and the issue has been resolved.
