Ford being tight ar$ es they couldn't be bothered Making a new stencil Just for the dash lights... makes me wonder cause later mk1 escort had a dimmer instead of the low/bright switch as on mk2. This might not be the right answer but sounds good !!

I have a Mk 2 RS and that switch controls the spotties, the other normal stalk does high beam on the standard lights. Len

strange that my ghia has an rs switch it came with the sports pack and the original owner got driving lights from for it but they were never installed I know it had a driving light wiring loom as well.
it's just strange that it would have a switch for driving lights when it dose not have them.

Ray that switch should be a high/low switch for dash lights, in an Escort I always run it on high as theyre hard to see if standard anyway.

The switch pictured is the two position dash light switch, the upper section has the dash dial. No RS had a fog light switch in Australia. They were however fitted to all Rally e Pac cars [possblily Ghias were driving lights were fitted as a possible dealer option] for the spotties. The wiring loom plugged to the fuse holder on the high beam pin and relay mounted along side battery where the battery warning sticker would be.

PS like Rhys said unless you have uprated your dash light bulbs this switch would permanently be on high and you still cannot see  much.

don't worry i remember the first time i dove her at night and it was off and discovered the switch made the dash brighter so when i install the new driving light wiring loom it would plug in to this switches wiring? because i know about the relay positive and negative wires the wire that goes in to the fuse and the two plugs that go to the driving lights and another plug that would go in to a wire that leads to this switch but i can't locate it.

I don't know where you have got your ideas from, but the RH switch is for the fog warning light  for which legislation came in after the mk2 was designed and  the light and switch was a bit of an afterthought to comply rather than redesign the tail light cluster. The Altissmo lamp is mounted on the offside under the rear bumper.

We never had those red lights under the bumper here in Aust, a close look and it's for the dash lights , dim, bright..
