Sounds like a scam,
If they have your name , your address (to send the agent ) and your bank details they can apply for credit etc in your name . They can make up the rest required - what you have given them will get them through a credit check then simply have the goods delivered to a different address .
Paypal may be ok but you will get charged a percentage possibly ?

Haha. My credit rating is **** at the moment. That’s the reason for the sale.
Funny to think someone else could attain money when all my avenues have dried up.
I had $12,500 go from my acc in one night with my acc being locked down.
Straight to the bank following morning at 9am. While I was there the scammers showed up at the ATM outside and did a cardless withdraw of $500 seriously.
They broke into my house and took bank statements etc to get that far.
All I know is I wouldn’t pay for something I had not seen or have an address of where it is. Even then you can get scammed.
If they want it eventually they will call.
Really need it sold to the right person not an internet troll. Thanks all.

I suppose in my situation if it was a scam it would not work. The pick up address is not my address and I’ve got business accounts not linked to anything else (I run more than one company). Still it must be a scam I wouldn’t give anyone that much money not knowing who I’m giving to.

Wiggy, be careful.  Ring the buyer and verify their details.  Get a town they are in and offer to send a mate to their place to collect a deposit in cash.  I'll bet they are never actually contactable by phone and will want to deal by E-Mail or facebook Messenger.  They will say something like they work on oil rigs, or are FI-FO mine workers in the remote outback, or armed forces personnel on deployment.  They will most likely offer to send a tuck to collect the car etc etc.  Its a big international data scraping scam.

As soon as they mention an agent its a sure scam.  If they give you a phone number type it into google and see what comes up.  I had one a while ago where he was texting, so I knew he had his phone with him, so I called, he didn't answer, but then he texted said he couldn't speak was at work.  Put his number into google and up it came on scam alert sites.

But in any case don't trust anyone that wants to pay by paypal.  2 reasons.

1.  Fake credit card scam.  They set up an account with a stolen card, paypal figures it out days later and reverses the transaction.  Money and car gone.

2.  Cars are supposedly exempt from buyer protection but there are plenty of cases online where people have accepted paypal payments from people who turned up and took the car, and were then hit with a claim through buyer protection from people claiming the car was not as described, or broke down and paypal reverses all or part of the transaction.

Anyone wanting to pay by paypal in full or in part is doing it for their benefit, not yours.

You will probably also get the low ballers with messages like hey mate if your car doesn't sell after a few weeks give me a call.  More common on ebay but same type of time wasters.

Good luck with sale.  Will be a good indication of the value of a matching numbers car.

Hi Wiggy  ......There is nothing wrong with PayPal ....Pay pal  is to safe guard the seller & the buyer , I have been using PayPal for years ... its great ...its instant & its  safe , buyer sees money in their bank account instantly no waiting 3-5 for bank clearance.
I use it to receive payments with my business & even have the PayPal eftpos  machine at work to accept my customers credit cards on the spot  ...if it was not safe do you think I would trust it to run my day to day business?? I know plenty of business that are using it aswell  and have never had any problems, so  its as safe as any other form of payment on offer these days.
Wiggy good luck with your sale mate , I have seen your car & met you  in person ...if it was a manual 4 speed we would have been talking turkey  right now as its a great car , very nice car  and matching numbers too!!!! , and  not AFRAID  to show all the CORRESPONDING ID numbers actually "match on the car , there are many pretentious  sellers out there trying to pass a "non"matching numbers car as a "genuine " matching numbers car , and are very dodgie so beware , if someone advertises a car as "MATCHING NUMBERS" make sure THEY CAN PROOF it  to you ...we almost got sucked in ...just aswell the seller crumbled when he  was asked to disclose  proof that all numbers were actually matching and saved us a lot of heartache ...as they say once bitten twice shy !!!

Thanks for the info and comments all.
If I can’t speak to someone face to face or on the phone I will ignore it.
I know I wouldn’t hand over a deposit without at least a discussion about it.

Sorry to hear about the drama's Wiggy, both having to sell the car and the bank woes.
My opinion.
If they can't view the car or arrange for someone too, they can't want it that badly. Maybe I'm a bit old fashioned but sometimes you have to 'work' for something you really want. If that means catching a red eye flight and hiring a car so be.
As for payment, again old fashioned money talks bull**** walks. You physically shake the persons hand, arrange payment and if necessary wait for funds to clear via bank deposit or bank cheque before transferring ownership.
Just my 2c worth.
Good luck with it all mate. Drew.

If that is aimed at me, which I suspect it is, then these pics should be proof enough that it was all about paypal and playing by ebay rules, not me crumbling, not the car being a fake.

If not it would be interesting to know more about the car that you are claiming is a fake.

As for paypal. There is plenty of cases on Paypal's own forum of sellers being stung after accepting paypal for cars. If someone keeps insisting on paying for your car on their terms and not yours, run, especially if their terms include paypal.  Remember they offer BUYER protection.

Matching numbers includes engine numbers. That’s the main difference.

Isn't that what matching numbers mean?
ie. Engine fitted matches the body when it was originally built, as identified on ID plate.

How can you have 'matching numbers' if an engine no is different.?
I must be missing something, but no bother.

Best of luck Wiggy, I hope you find a baby boomer with a big wad rock up and job done.

Mine is matching numbers. Engine as well. All other numbers should match on any car.
Who knows should add it’s has no stereo or radio as it left the factory that way.

The photo of the block stamp was in the original ebay listing, just not on my computer now, so gtcapri knows that the block stamp matched the ID plate which I just showed matches the strut stamp.  His rants about dodgy sellers and fake cars have no basis.

BTW, does anyone know if genuine clocks fitted to Aus capris have red hands and black surround.  I have only ever seen white hands with chrome surround.  Red/black combos being advertised on ebay and gumtree at the moment.

Apart from RS3100s, clocks had chrome surrounds with white hands.
