Don't know but the old saying is true "its only worth what somebody is prepared to pay" Wasn't there a Capri from Tas or Vic that sold for $65,000 plus??

The good old "what is it worth debate" is still alive and well.

It’s not really overpriced when you think about a driveable car with paint etc. Cheaper than a Holden alternative and a Mk1 Capri costs a lot more to fix than most other cars. That’s where the Mk1 Capri problems start. If you don’t keep it original you lose value. If you keep it original your money flies out of your bank account never to return.

The Capri that was rumoured to have sold for 63K ...is purely that just a rumour , no one knows where the car is or who its owner is. Lets face it guys our humble Capri will never get the prices of say a SLR5000, or a Holden Monaro or a Falcon Phase3 , but in saying that I know which one I would rather be driving ...yes our classic Mk1 Capri :)

You never know. The Oz V6 is wanted worldwide nowadays. Complete Torana interiors are much cheaper to buy. Body panels available. Everything we need to repair things is based overseas. And a good source of supply in WA etc sells for a kidney and a liver for a wheel nut. Hard to price one nowadays.

rarespares sells anything holden. I always laugh if you search escort or capri and get 150+ hits, and it all just for coolant or wiper blades if your lucky.ok maybe not quite that bad if you include dodgy rubbers

You can take mine for $38000. Diamond white Auto. Not a dollar less though. Even has no radio for that price. But never has.

Still don’t get the hype around a numbers matching car and motor combo. Really who apart from the owner gives a crap. If a car is built well with a reconditioned motor and is able to be registered as such that’s all I care about. Would you prefer a motor bored out to its max with a limited life span to a motor with plenty of life left in it? I bought a motor last year with original pistons and big end bearings as well as rod bearings. That’s the motor for me but it doesn’t match any of my cars. Really who cares as long as it’s still an Essex V6 and nowadays that’s debatable.

Sorry Glenn I would have to disagree with your comments. Any classic car is more valuable with its original engine, yes lots of cars have had engine swaps etc thats what makes a vehicle with its original engine more valuable. Also any classic car which has service records, history, original owners books etc more valuable. It all adds to the history of the car. Its a funny thing matching numbers and yes some people do go a little overboard about the importance of it but at the end of the day it does effect a classic cars value and I am sure if there was 2 very similar cars for sale at the same price all the non-sayers about matching numbers would choose the matching numbers car to buy. Also Glenn whats wrong with only taking your car out to a car show once a year and then spend the next 2 hours washing it, if it is your car you can enjoy it how you see fit. Some people enjoy driving a classic car every day some enjoy doing it once or twice a year, some people own more than one classic, some have none and still enjoy looking and talking about them etc. I am sure everybody has heard a story about some rare classic car kept tucked away in a garage that hasn't been driven in the last 30 years and is a "Holly Grail" of a classic car, these are the classic cars everybody seems to get excited about. Now would these cars exist if they where used daily, weekly, monthly? No they wouldn't. I am not saying to anybody to not enjoy their classic, but again it is up to the individual to enjoy it as they want. Anyway thats just my thoughts and it is always a interesting topic regarding cars value, is that white car worth $32 k , maybe?? Its only worth what somebody is prepared to pay.

I believe there is 2 schools of thought to this . 1 as a collector you are looking for a trophy that is as original and pristine as the day it was new that you can polish and parade as this trophy or go the full extent and park it in a museum to represent the car of yesteryear. 2 You appreciate the aesthetics of the older car but you like current road manners and performance , you also understand your current car is never going to be in a museum and you bought it for your pleasure and not others. Therefore you will do with it as you please without a second thought that one day the museum may turn you down as some numbers dont match. I understand both arguments . I dare say I will never be in band 1 as I will never have the money to sit looking at masterpieces but i can do band 2 as thats more me. I love the looks but i want to to perform like a modern car , just faster . Bruce

Matching numbers value is all about rarity and for me is important because the cost of resto is so high that if you restore a non matching, or even worse a converted 4cyl, then it is money down the drain. Matching numbers gives you some chance of getting your money back when its time to sell.

Matching numbers only matters if your entered in Barrett Jackson. Bit like people throwing the word concourse when your at a car event..I'm at a car event/ cruise with one of my capris most weekends and given there not commonly seen anymore most people I talk to couldn't give a hoot.
