Damn! I should have checked my clutch cable back when this thread was active. I bought one from Burton's too, and just trying to fit it now. It is too short as others have found.  Sigh.

I don't think QCC1062 (100cm) is long enough for an Aus RS2000.
I bought QCC1010 (123cm) for plenty of length, but haven't fitted yet.

Plan to do so any time soon?  The QCC1148 might be a good choice too at 110cm.

I ended up getting my clutch cable lengthened to about 104cm. Fits perfect now.

I thought about this for a bit yesterday, and the problem isn't the overall length, but how much longer the inner is over the outer. A few extra cms to the inner cable is all it would take to fit properly. Who modified yours 2Mk2?

A few points bear in mind my expertise is with Capris not Escorts.  OK the UK delivered RS2000 had an alloy bellhousing ours was the stock cast iron one.  Check your Burtons/QH listings to see what they list for the MK2 1600 Manual as this was the gearbox we got.

Also just looking at your first photo, both adjusting nuts are on the engine side.  What about putting the fat nut on the clutch fork side and trimming down the plastic bush.

As I say Im not an escort man but is there any merit in anything mentioned above?

The cable for the Kent is shorter (86cm from memory), and the adjusting nuts won't slip over the end piece. I'm convinced the issue is the inner length, not the outer, as the overall length only changes the bend radius of the cable. A longer outer wouldn't make any difference to how much cable is pulled through the firewall, as that is where the outer stops.

The outer length ultimately changes inner length. That is how the adjustment happens. The length of travel is the next point of issue. The cable needs to provide ultimate length of travel while adjusting for clutch wear and also cable stretch and mechanical wear. Ultimately what is the length of travel for the system are you inside it. Interesting regarding the alloy bellhousing to steel RS2000.

What I mean is that if you take a foot off the lenth of the outer, and a foot off the length of the inner, you've essentially got the same amount of cable doing the work; it's just shorter overall, and a tighter fit in the engine bay. My Burton-supplied cable is long enough to mount to both the bell housing and the firewall, but the inner won't reach the pedal and the clutch fork. Compared to the stock cable, the outer is a little shorter, but the inner is shorter still.

I bought a cable from Rally design for my mk1 van, I ordered a Cortina mk3 which was plenty long enough both outer and inner. I made a small plate with a tube welded to it to space the inner cable to where I need it, this is butted against the belhousing . So it's a mk1 escort with a zetec motor and zetec clutch kit mounted to a Celica box... somehow it all came good!

Hi Flighter.

Got my clutch cable modified at a place in Eltham in Melbourne Eastern Suburbs. They just replaced the inner cable and did it on the spot which was great. Here is the link to their Web site. Looks like that can make pretty much any sort of cable, clutch, speedo, etc.
