Hopefully can get it all nice and smooth once I glue it down also as it's just sitting on there at the moment :) Next up is the gauge cluster I think. I need to make a new one as I have a new speed and tacho so need to fabricate a new surround. The door cards won't be far away though. I am still undecided on them as I just did them in plain velour last time. But I am thinking vinyl and valour potentially.

Its been awhile since a post with moving house and building the new shed, but i finally got a few hours on the weekend to try and remember where i was up to. I finally finished off the gauge cluster (attached), then i just need to finalise the lighting circuit wiring for my centre console gauges, get the new fuel sender and speed sensor working, general put back together and back on the road!

Its been awhile since an update. Car is now pretty much back together. The list of things to complete: - Wire up electronic speedo
- Modify fuel tanker sender to work with smiths gauge (haven't worked this one out yet)
- Check everything is nice and tight ready to drive
- Put finishing touches on interior
I cant recall if i mentioned i had to pull the engine out again to fix a gearbox leak (my stupidity for not putting the paper seal between the bell housing and gearbox). That has also been completed. I was able to have the engine out within about 1.5 hours and back in within the hour, all with the help of the hoist and dropping the engine out from below the car, instead of lifting it up. A few little update pics below, and hopefully a pic when its back on the road in about 1 month.

Fuel tank sender roughed in. I saved the original sender and fuel cap as it's the same as the capri tank

Hi All, car is all running great. Has performed well at two track first. 2 issues though, both related to fuel supply. Day 1: I burnt out my HP EFI pump. I suspect this was due to fuel starvation. I then modified my setup so that my LP pump was an intank unit, which feed to the surge pot. Day 2: Getting slight surging when going hard into a left hand corner. This is suspected due to the output location on the surge tank. I will weld another outlet bung on the other side, and feed it to the same pump, so if im going hard left or right, the pump will always have fuel. It surprised me i was having this issue, as the swirl pot is 2L in size etc, but I am. Next upgrades underway: R31 Diff shortened with LSD New gearbox to replace Type 9 New pinto build, with turbo. Ill keep the existing motor as it performs really well. If anyone wants any help/advice with EFI conversion, in particular using Megasquirt, just give me a shout.

Awesome thread and one i havent read yet!
The change to r31 is for strength? Few turbo pintos punting around making decent power on newer turbos. Almost sways me from a NA twin cam dream

Hi Robbie, yes thats right. It was either that or the Hilux. But the r31 had good ratios and I already had the r31 calipers etc on the current diff. So it meant no change to handbrake setup and the calipers could bolt straight on. I considered the Duratec/Zetec but decided from my perspective i could build a fun pinto for around the price of the conversion parts + some. Additionally, i didn't want to have to change computers. I like being able to tune it myself.

I was worried about that. But two sessions down and it’s too addictive not too!
