Leather restoration - Dry hard leather Recaros
I've googled leather repair with most how to guides referring to US products.
Before I go buying products, has anyone here restored leather seats before?
The leather is all in tact but is pulling near seems as it appears to be dry/hard and shrinking and I'd like to get some moisture back into them to make them more comfortable.

Hi Rhys,
I bought a second hand leather lounge which was getting a bit dry- you will find many leather furniture shops sell rejuvenation kits as well as auto accessory shops having gear from the usual brands- Meguires etc. Give the surface a gentle wash with warm soapy water and dry off. Then use the product as per instructions. You may find that it will require several applications for the surface to start to come good. Are the seats in the car? Make sure that you are not in hot or sunny conditions when putting the rejuvenator on as you don't want it to dry too quickly. Depending on use and whether you have seat covers on they should be given a coat every couple of months. The stuff I use is like furniture wax and is put on with a slightly damp warm cloth, left to dry slightly and buffed up, doing one patch at a time . Gives a great long lasting satin shine- I'm thinking of doing my new door trims with it instead of Armourall.

Armorall is vile stuff for vinyl door trims. I much prefer 303 Aeropace protectant.

Thanks Len, I'll have a look at Meguires ingredients.
Agreed on Armourall, I think these may have had that treatment in the past and its dried them out.

Leatherique has received many good reviews as being one of the best. Theres distributors in Aus as well as far as I'm aware, or online, fleabay etc

I used the Meguiars leather conditioner/ polish, on my dryed out escort cossie seats, it worked awesome

Hi Rhys, The process is multi part, depending on what you are trying to achieve as an end result. !! ... Neatsfoot Oil is used as the conditioning, softening and preserving agent for leather. ... apply with a soft Cotton cloth or your bare hand, you can feel it getting pliable, allow to penetrate or be absorbed by the leather, ... Warm conditions will assist in being absorbed.!! Don't over treat, as Oil is sucked in apply a little more, ...When penetration slows down stop adding oil, and buff off with a soft Cotton cloth or towel.!! ... Buy from a saddlery, or E-bay or Leather Craft Supplier the Lightest Yellow Coloured Transparent Oil.!! Depending on the Leather type, Quality and Thickness, the above may need to be repeated.!! ... If the desired softness or pliability is not Achieved.!! Step 2: ... Cleaning the Leather, Meguirar's is good stuff, from Supercheap etc. applied using a soft Cotton cloth or towel, The aim is to purge the pores of dirt, Rub it into the Leather in small areas, approx. 300mm x 300mm. it may Lather showing the dirt contained in the lather, then another soft Cotton cloth or towel is used to buff it off.!! ... Proceed with this method until the entire seat has been cleaned.!! Step 3: ... If colour is to be added, Same Technique as Cleaning.!! ... Wear Rubber Gloves, Pour some Lacquer or Multipurpose Thinner into a plastic icecream container, (test with a small amount say 10ml, as the thinner may melt the container) We need a wet cloth in one hand, and a dry cloth in the other hand.!! ... Dip the wet cloth into the thinners, then squeeze the wet cloth firmly and rub over an area on the seat, with the dry hand rubbing it off, as above, ... Proceed with this method until the entire seat has been covered.!! You can then lightly Wet Sand the entire seat, using 600/800 Wet n Dry paper.!! ... Wipe over the Seat with a squeezed wet cloth, and a dry cloth, change the wet cloth and water frequently, to clean the surface.!! Step 4: ... I have only used Dye colours thinned with Methylated Spirits, rubber glove, wet squeeze technique.!! ... The more the Dye is thinned, and number of coats applied ensures a more even Colour on the Leather.!! ... Dye Colours (which are transparent) can be obtained from a saddlery, or E-bay or Leather Craft Supplier.!! Dawleymon's Meguirar's product would be a great Finisher.!! ... Maintenance, (? may be required every 12 months) Go Back to Where we Started, using Neetsfoot oil (it is the best for Leather Conditioning) Plus Dawleymon's Meguirar's product to finish and Polish.!! Food for Consideration, Opaque Colours for Leather are now available, if on your seat there is a flat, smooth area, your Forum ID can be applied in that area.!! ... The Ultimate Customise.!! ... Check out the opaque colours on E-bay, If interested let me know what you think, I'll work out a way to achieve this Ultimate Customise.!! ... The same is also possible on cloth fabrics and Vinyl.!! Automatic Transmission Fluid works really well as a Vinyl or Rubber Conditioner/Softener.!!!
