More Gaz gold hicups

Hello all, well after last post my shiny new hubs arrived, all good, they fit.... Gone to fit the standard brake calliper and its clashing with the disc and hub..... Mocked it all up on the old strut, works fine, and seems like there is about a 7mm difference in the position of the top mounting hole for the calliper on the gaz units..... Other than machining down the disc and hub are there any other ideas? anyone else had this problem? The other real possibility at the moment is to just to cut my losses, burn them and stick with the stock units.....
Cheers Drew

Dont burn them! Send them my way. I'd be happy to elongate holes for non-road duties

That is a real bummer if the castings are 7mm out and they're being sold as a direct replacement.

    Hi Drew,
What about fitting larger discs, Are the Capri vented discs larger? Are you fitting the standard Escort ones? The other option might be to drill and tap a new mounting hole.
    Cheers,

    Hi Mate,

I am surprised to hear you are having with the GAZ Golds.  I have them and they are awesome.

Although I am running volvo calipers I am surprised that your having issues.

Where are you having issues with the set up.  Pics are good here.

Mine are exactly the same as the standard capri items as i bought them to replace the capri ones with no differences so i am surprised you are having issues.

    Hopefully you get it sorted

Ok cheers guys, pics are good.... Had a look at this today with a cooler head and an even temper..... Using standard Escort brakes, the top mounting point of the calliper is different to the stock one, leaning it over and making contact with the disc, only just though, theres not enough space on the tab to drill and tap another hole, so I'm figuring on machining the disc down by 3mm.

Next I need to machine down the lip on the hub to clear the calliper aswell as enlarge the stud holes (I was assured they would fit my studs by the seller)

Still need to dig out my volante wheels and see if they'll fit too.....
The car needs to be moved in a couple of weeks for the construction of our new garage, so I may stick the stock stuff back on for now and worry about it when I have a warm new shed to work in....
I'll post the results as I go.....
    Cheers Drew.....

Not sure what rotors you are using but it's a common thing to have to machine down the hubs when fitting the M16 calipers to capri hubs.

How thick are those discs?  Are you referring to taking 3mm off the diameter (which sounds fine) or of the thickeness (which sounds a lot)?  I filed a bit off the outside of my calipers when I fitting spacers and thicker Capri discs so that it didn't interfere with the hub.  I'm going back to standard discs now that I understand braking better.

Looks like you have RDA118s fitted, which has a minimum thickness of 11.4mm (from about 13mm new), so I guess you are referring to diameter.

You mention 'standard Escort brakes'. Standard for what? Mark 1 or Mark 2?

If they are mark 2 Escort they will not fit and you need to modify them. You have Capri struts and you need Capri brakes.
