Laurie's Escort,now Injected
After a bigger than Big Hur effort it now lives. After minimal mods to engine. Other than a freshen up, balance and blue printing,11:5-1 compression, excellent head work (port matching both manifolds) and camshaft choice and a EMS Stinger V4 comp. A modest 120 hp @rw.

Sorry to go off topic (wasn't paying attention to which thread I posted to), but technically Ratta (and this is just for info, and nothing more), they are not strictly Ghia wheels you are after. They were standard on Ghias until they went to alloys late in the Mk2 life cycle, but Ford referred to them as "styled steel wheels". They were fitted to lesser Escorts as part of option packages (e.g. Fashion Pack, Rally Pack and Sundowner), and possibly as a separate option on their own. I think most, if not all, came with chrome trim rings too, at least in '78. Back on topic now, and that's a very impressive looking car you have there Laurie - I wish I had an engine just like that!

Thanks for the info flighter. I have a full set (x5) of mint condition Volante's which I'm taking off to replace with "styled steel". Love it ;) Back on topic..

Thanks guys. Has been a labour but very rewarding. I didn't know whether the EFI route was the way to go but the engine is very smooth and responsive and at this stage reliable and easy to tune thanks to the EMS.

Laurie if 120rwhp was achievable from a 32/36 weber then that would be a far better and cheaper option. But I think as far as carbs go only twin 40's will give you that much power and EFI certainly has it's benefits over twin side drafts

Sorry to butt in: "Thanks for the info flighter. I have a full set (x5) of mint condition Volante's which I'm taking off to replace with "styled steel". Love it ;)" The steel wheel in your photo is an earlier version styled steel wheel. The later versions fitted to all the Escorts as standard are as in the following photo. There is a difference in the raised profile between the blackouts. Congratulations on the mods Laurie very neat. Hard work but I am sure you are pleased with the results.

As best I can tell from the crappy images I have, the 1980 catalog shows both types of steel wheels fitted, although not to Ghias, which had alloys by then. Personally, I prefer the ones Ratta is looking for, although they are too skinny and could have more aggressive offset. EDIT: The Feb '79 catalog images I have are much better, and clearly show the early styled wheel. These are newer cars with square headlamps, and the wheels are shown fitted to Ls, GLs and Ghias. There is no sign of the revised wheel in the catalog, so I've no idea when production switched. A relative had a very late 1980 model Sprint pack, and it had the revised wheels Peter wrote of, as did most other Escorts of the late 70s if my memory serves me.

Hi Laurie, Good work on persevering with the build and EFI. Car looks great and has a nice stance about it. Now you get to enjoy it! Rhys
