WTB - 15 X 7 wheels to suit my RS2000. Simmons are of interest, but open to anything.

Hi Guys,

So im now chasing a new set of wheels for the RS2000. The style of rim I am after is a kind of 5 spoke thing, in a 15X7 size.

I like the look of the Simmons B45 (from yesteryear!), or the F90 Simmons....

But, certainly open to other styles of wheel for sure.

So, if you have a set of something sitting in the garage you'd like to get rid of, please fire a response into this thread and let me know. Im open to all suggestions.

Look forward to the response guys - hopefully theres a few set out there up for grabs.

Dave

    Hi Guys,

Just wanted to bump this thread back up, as im having a fair bit of trouble finding some nice rims.

    My thoughts are:
    15"
    4X108 (no choice)
With an offset of around 19-20? (Is that right?)
Im interested in 5 spoke rims similar to those pictured.

Ive tried the manufacturers of these wheels, and they all state that they dont offer these wheels with the appropriate offset to suit the MK2 Escort.

Would love to hear from anyone with anything like this they might be interested in selling.

    Thanks a lot.

    Hi Dave
If you like B45's why don't you get onto Performance rims and get some Challengers, I think they'd look a lot more at home than the modern wheels pictured above and are still available new.

    Cheers,
    Rhys

    Rhys,

Thanks very much for that reference. Awesome.

I have narrowed it down to two rims, and im throwing it out to the gang (IE You guys! :)) to see if can get some guidance on clearance of both the guards, and the internal suspension components.

Offset for both sets of wheels seems to be OK, but im mostly concerned about clearance against the inside of the rim.

The two rims im looking at are as follows:

    Lotus
Rims Size: 15X6.5 (No problems - understand this)
Number of holes: 4 (Self explanatory)
Offset: 20P (From what i gather, the Escort likes and offset of arounf 19-20P, Is this right?)
Back Space MM: 114 (This is where im unsure of clearance on internal components - Guidance?)
PCD: Between 95 and 120 (Self explanatory)
XF: 45 (X Factor - What is this?)

    Challenger
    Rim Size: 15X7
    Number of Holes: 4,5
    Offset: 8P
    Back Space MM: 108
    PCD: Between 95 and 130
    X Faxtor: 22

Whilst the Challenger's are a little more "period correct", i am hopefull that someone may be able ot pass their views on the fitment of either of these rims to the MK2 Rs2000 and how they would go with rubbing etc.

    Thanks very much all

These pics might help you, 15x7 challengers on 2 door RS. You may get away with no rubbing with 195 tyres as I've seen 15x7 Superlites (12p offset) fit easily under unrolled arches but can't say for sure.

Here's another option i found a while back which i might just fit, with smallish 195 tyres.. The offset is aggressive so you may need a touch of guard rolling.
I was going to use them as a second wheel for my mk1. Classic looking and also pretty cheap. A lot of guys in the US use them on Jap AE86's etc..
There are a number of places in the US, id just shop around to see who can give you the best price and cheapest shipping.

Thanks for that suggestion. Not a bad wheel at all!.

If my maths is correct, however, im not sure that i would need to roll the guard?.

My understanding is an escort is happy with 20+ offset.

That rim you suggested has a 10mm offset. If I calculate the amount if tyre protruding from the outter edge of the rim ((195-177.8)/2) where 195 is the tyre width, 177.8 is the width of a 7inch rim in MM, i get 8.6mm.

If i then add this 8.6 to the offset of the rim itself (10mm), i get a combined offset of 18.6, which "should" mean i can fit them under the guard?.

Does this make sense to anyone else or just me?. :P

Be careful with your calculations - the advertised width of a rim is not measured externally. It's the distance between the inner bead seats. So a 7 inch rim is usually closer to 8 inches wide overall.

If you've got a reasonably healthy budget there are lots of options here: http://www.imagewheels.co.uk/pages/wheels_cast.html

Top notch advice this. Thanks very much for pointing that out. I will definately need to adjust the calculations (and therefore potentially wheel choice) with this new information.

    Thumbs up.

Thanks for that Simon. They sure do have some rims i like. Pity their website isnt a little more forthcoming with specs!.

Its also a pity my work phone seems to be blocked from ringing international!

Always loved image wheels. Very good quality and custom sizes are no problem for them.

Also you might also look at wheels which are 6j wide as well. Im running a 195/50/15 semi slicks on my wheels which are 15x6j quiet happily (i wouldn't go any wider tyre size though). Looking at both 7j & 6j and accordingly suitable offsets might open some more options for you.

    thanks evo.....

Pardon my ignorrance, but what does the "J" mean in 6j / 7j?, is that just another way of referencing inches wide?
