You're right Glen.
I don't think everyone who owns a Mk1 Capri, let alone a GTV6Mk1, appreciates exactly how rare they are becoming by the year.  This sentiment also applies to all Makes and Models of Aussie built cars of course.
We should keep in mind their true and increasing worth: none of these Pieces of History have ever "grown on trees", but the opposite; they are being snapped up by cashed up Yuppies, as well as genuine collectors WORLD WIDE.
Don't forget why the UK, Scotland and Canada are snapping them up; all theirs have died of natural causes and/or rusted away due to the squillion tons of SALT they put on their roads regularly, to suppress ice forming from all the snow that falls on their streets and highways.
********************************************************************************************
What a "buzz" it is to drive a well maintained rare 60's and 70's collectable all around Melbourne and Penisulas and
Dandenongs......preferably on sunny, rain-free days of course!

Mate thats the essence of owning these cars, I can throw away all my worldly worries and drive Perths northern beaches all day long...
I've got a passing interest in the numbers of Capri's left. Still looking for a new project and after numerous wanted ads and countless hours of scouting country areas I haven't turned up a single Capri. I've had better luck finding a GT500 Cortina (complete basket case though)
Oh well back to the search, Drew....

Hi Drew,

life is such a bag of "unknowns"!...........I wasn't even looking for ANY Capri or any particular car as I have too many already (hoarder sickness), and this 72 GT V6 on the left "drops in my lap" for a stupid irresistable price only 2 years ago............it pays to be an extrovert: I was admiring some Capris at a Country Swap-Meet 3 years ago, and turned to this stranger next to me about how sweet the duco was on these cars, and he quipped "I wish my Capri was nearly as nice as these Capris, but now I'm thinking it'll have to go as I've lost interest". So natch I couldn't help myself, and made further "enquiries" thinking I'd be better off buying a car "man-to-man" before it hits ebay for thousands to bid up 10 or 20 times more!............ Had to wait nearly a year before he was ready to part with it..............seems the harder you look for something; the more it eludes you.
I wish I could get my hands on a value for money good-nick 68-71 Monaro regardless of engine or tranny.  We beat ourselves up when we think of how many desirable/collectable cars we missed or refused.......... As Ned said "Ah, such is life!"....... He couldn't have possibly realised we Aussies would be the luckiest humans on the Planet to have such miniscule worries, while half the world is wondering where their next scrap of food's coming from, or when they're about to be blown away?
(Sorry, had to add that last bit to balance things up a bit)

I tried as hard as I could to get it but it was a couple of weeks ago. At the same time there was a 4cyl with v6 in it 10 minutes from my house. I got nothing and was pissed. I reckon whoever got the teal green also got the 4cyl. End of the day you snooze you loose.

i will be doing that to mine when its ready for paint no way will i remove original tag and risk any damage to compliance plate ...  i think it looks even more dodgy when you see new rivets on compliance plates or ones snapped at the ends of the rivet holes ...

Still can't see why people find it hard to remove the pop rivets with no damage. Even stainless rivets are easy to remove. Why finish a car and leave something underneath the compliance plate not fixed. My two cents.

I agree Wiggy that's up there with leaving the glass in Basic DYI and people attempt to restore a car these are the basics needed to even attempt any resto.. If taking those short cuts what's the rest of body work like. Do it once do it right .my 2 cents. Lol

ive gone thru nearly every panel on the capri  replaced quater's guards beaver sill floor scuttle  a posts etc etc

id like something to be original and untouched  and the tag is probably the only thing i havent touched ,,,,

there still must be a few gt v6's left tho they seem to pop up once a month etc another one around the corner from me on gumtree for 12 gs  ... i think its way over priced for that money and needs full resto as soon as i see rust on lower fender's you could  bet the sill panels and sill ends are gone

That recent one on Gumtree must have gone as it's not showing up in searches. There are more ads wanting a v6 capri than there are ones for sale it seems.

Capris rust in many places and for many different reasons. A pillar rust and offending floor and sill rust can be from leaking window corners top and bottom through to mud build up between fender and A pillar to the worst which have both. Each Capri I've owned has its own issues, and has been cared for or neglected in various ways and varied results. Would be nice to see some pics of your resto of bringing your one back In Rod we trust and hope it's coming together for you. Still won't agree in leaving the comp plate untouched.

I also remove the plates for safe storage during a resto, stops someone trying to pinch them.
