Also, Capri's only ever had a 4 seat capacity, is that a Carsales glitch or the owners?

There was the odd Capri which was complianced as a 5 seater, and would have had a centre seatbelt for the backseat. A quick look at the compliance plate would confirm.
Cheers
Jamie

Jamie, I have viewed and photographed scores of Capri compliance plates in my constant search for the complete coding story of these cars and not one of them has ever had anything other than a 4 in the Seating Cap. box! If you have seen a Capri with a lap seat belt fitted in the centre of the rear seat, I'd suggest that it has been installed aftermarket by the owner or a dealer who wasn't aware that the Capri was only ever legally complianced as a 4 seater car. IF, you can show me a 5 in the Seating Cap. box of a Capri compliance plate, then I'll stand corrected. Terry

Terry,
There aren't many that I've heard of, but here is a picture of the last one I found a few years ago. This car had a rear centre lap belt, in the original metal style buckles.

I have also viewed and photographed scores of Capri compliance plates for the same reason you do. I guess I've just stumbled across some different cars to what you have.
Cheers
Jamie

Well, after 30yrs prowling around and owning Capris, I've just learnt something new.
Sometimes 4 seats permissable.
Sometimes 5 seats permissable.
.....depends our your own particular compliance plate it seems.

Well I'll be Jamie, this is the first Capri compliance plate that I've ever seen with a '5' in the seating cap. box! Now as a family historian, I learned long ago that you must always confirm information at least twice, if not more, before you can consider it to be completely accurate. Having said that, the challenge is now to find more of these '5' seating capacity Capri compliance plates.  This '5' could of course just be a punching mistake by the operator in the assembly plant! The challenge is on! Terry

From memory, JR found one a few years ago (I think it was a post on the old forum).

I'll have a look through my photos and see if I can find another one, but I don't think it's likely.

Edit: I found another compliance plate which appears to have a seating capacity of 5, but the image isn't clear enough to be 100%. This was from a nice 1970 v6 capri that JR sold a few years ago on ebay, so he might have a better picture of it.

Happy to go along with that, it's always good to confirm things as many times as possible. Hopefully we'll have the complete picture one day, and the information will be available for any Capri enthusiast who's interested.

Hi Allan,

It's probably more like:
  • Most times - 4 seats actual
  • Rarely - 5 seats (possible until confirmed further).

Cheers

Hope you don't mind
