Nice Capri on Carsales

This looks like quite a nice car, especially in that colour. The sort of car you hope never becomes a V8 conversion.

It is of course just a Deluxe model and at that price it doesn't come with a RWC, you must be kidding! If it's completely rebuilt and in excellent condition, then a RWC should be a given. Also, Capri's only ever had a 4 seat capacity, is that a Carsales glitch or the owners? Clearly, lately, these 4-cylinder Capri's are being sold well above their real value! They're my thoughts anyway.

    Yep does look good.
Regarding value I suppose it all comes how much somebody is willing to pay.
Prob is reasonable price if you take into account body work, trim, mechanicals
It really all comes down to the quality of the resto and if you want to buy a car and not having to spend any money and can start enjoying it straight away.
We all probably know somebody who has brought a car and had ambitions to restore it and it has either cost them three times what they expected, or it is still sitting in the garage waiting to be restored as finding the time to complete the resto yourself is also a factor for some people.
    Just my thoughts

If someone is willing to pay $18grand for it good on him, the value of any classic car is only what the market is willing to pay, no more or less.  I hope he does sell at this price, can only mean my 1600 GT is going up in value too ;)

There was the odd Capri which was complianced as a 5 seater, and would have had a centre seatbelt for the backseat. A quick look at the compliance plate would confirm.

As for recent values/sale prices, I'm just as surprised as most people. Given what the last two Shannons auctions realised for 4cyl non-GT cars, it would certainly be interesting to see what an original GTV6 would make there.

Looks a really nice car & the colour is great.
There's hope yet for all the poverty pack owners.
Dare I say that good 1600 Capris are becoming rarer than V6s.
Anyway, I'll keep mine nice & shiny & maybe the good fairy will come one day!
It will be really interesting to see how long it is for sale.
    Cheers

I have been searching for either a Capri or Escort MK 1 and sorry to say, most of the cars I see are just like this one, overpriced 1600's. A fully restored car and I mean professionaly restored not full of bog and sprayed in someone's garage is worth paying for but I am unable to find even a half decent car. I also reckon as these prices rise cars will be seen as investments and in the end we wil see less and less cars out and about. I should say this Capri does look a pro resto but is still a 1600. Just my opinion.

Look these cars that we love are getting harder and harder to find. when was the last time you seen a poverty pack capri come up for sale?? ( not a dressed up GT ). i like this car as it hasn't been touched. not like the last 1 that went through shannons.... anything old school is going up. and as the Falcons have been priced out of the enthuasit, they are looking for the next best thing so have pushed the capri price up. and soon we will be priced out of the cars we love. I would rather pay the $18K for this then the $15k for the shannons car...Look at what most cars are selling for on ebay that need alot of work. MY car has had 18k pounds spent on bodywork alone so this car if its as good as it looks is not bad for the price...I only have an issue with a car for sale that it pretending to be something that it isn't.. Just my 2 cents..O

I think "don't bitch" might be be a tad strong. Everyone has the right on a forum to have what is their opinion. I agree with Owen and I repeat, that I am looking for the fun aspect not the dollar value. Investments are boring and I have them covered in other ways. I think it just might be that I am not willing to pay these prices. The couple of good and very good 1600's have been for sale for weeks and have yet to sell? Just my opinion guys, no offence meant or taken.

It would be difficult to pay the asking price for this car knowing that similar money would have got you one of a handful of the nice original GT V6's that have sold over the last year on ebay (or privately).

The main reason I put up a link to this car was that it doesn't appear to be a slapped together 1600. It looks like a carefully driven, fastidiously owned car that the current owner bought back when Bob Hawke was Prime Minister, and has looked after just as well as the first owner.

Just like my poverty pack 1600.

It is always an interesting topic regarding car prices.
I suppose it is very hard to put an exact figure  on cars values.
In my opinion it all comes down to what you want and if you are prepared to spend.
This also effects lots of other items for sale, houses, artwork and etc.
We all prob know somebody who has paid a ridiculous amount for a "toy" be it a motor cycle, classic car, boat, shack or holiday home and if you think about it if you really enjoy the use or your "hobby" or "interest" and you can afford it then go for it.
I think the value of nice classic cars are on the rise again after the bubble burst a few years ago.
Regarding the price of GT V6's, I was in the market for a nice one for a few years and the advertised ones below 20K still needed repairs so it is hard to put a price on them going off recent sales.
Again only my opinion and the car in response to this thread does look nice.

Jamie, I have viewed and photographed scores of Capri compliance plates in my constant search for the complete coding story of these cars and not one of them has ever had anything other than a 4 in the Seating Cap. box! If you have seen a Capri with a lap seat belt fitted in the centre of the rear seat, I'd suggest that it has been installed aftermarket by the owner or a dealer who wasn't aware that the Capri was only ever legally complianced as a 4 seater car. IF, you can show me a 5 in the Seating Cap. box of a Capri compliance plate, then I'll stand corrected. Terry

This has always made me wonder as you often see them advertised as 5 seaters but mine is stamped as a 4 seater, I could never work out why
