2lt Turbo radiator upgrade
G'Day,
I'm currently stuck on my track car project as I'm ready to paint engine bay but have had second thoughts about using a 3core Escort radiator and cutting the front out some more for a much bigger and hopefully more efficient radiator.
I after guidance on surface area vs thickness.
Escort rad is around 360Hx430Wx60T ish depending on 2 core or 3, but looking at space i have I could potentially get something more along the lines a 350Hx 650-700Wx16T but cutting rad support panels out ( this is ok with me, not road rego'd)
A few questions:
Is a 16mm radiator equal to 1 core meaning less flow and poorer cooling?
Does extra surface area negate itself by having less cores or would Escort have more technical surface area by having more cores ie. multiply surface area by 3 for 3core?
Any one had personal experience in Alloy rads from China? How do you rate their build quality and performance?
Essentially I'm aiming for best bang for buck and currently looking at Plastic tanked, aluminium core jobies for their lightweight nature. KN/KQ Laser, S14 200SX, AT Telstar, MK Triton all look like they would fit the bill but vary in core thickness. Thickness will play a part in space for thermos also, hence the questions.
Cheers,
Rhys
