i went with a black rocker cover wit blue lines.....came out real good works with the rest of the body (white 2 door RS)[:p]

Some very good ideas there, and good advice Vanman.

I am leaning towards a dark blue at the moment, it does appeal to me.

I also have another question for you gurus:

I failed to notice when I pulled the engine mounts from the RS that one is longer than the other. I have heard the longer one goes on the inlet side to allow for sidedraughts, is that true?

The Gregorys ( [xx(] yes I know) doesn't say anything other than remove and install. Anyone know?

Today was a big day for the Escorts, most of the work was on the rally car.

First we manufactured a new tab for the headlight plates which seat in the headlight buckets, which was missing when I bought them. Then I sand blasted all the parts back to bare metal, including the rocker cover for the RS2000.


Then I gave them a wipe down with MEK and primed them all, ready for their paint. I bought satin black for the headlight gear, and a nice royal blue and a clear gloss for the rocker cover for the RS.



Previously, I had made up templates for the rally cars interior panels to be cut out of sheet aluminium that I had, to save weight. The panels to be done are the:

Door trims:



Rear interior side panels:



A rear firewall to seal the boot (and fuel cell) from the cabin:



Well, the templates and aluminium panels went in today to begin being cut out, so hopefully might have them for the weekend.

I also acquired a new oil spray bar for the rally car, and bought some hose that I can use to test both oil spray bars (rally cars and the RS2000s) to make sure they flow well without leaking.

Busy times! This thread is becoming more about the cars as a whole, should it be moved to the Project Cars forum and renamed? [xo]

Also, I'm still chasing information on the engine mounts, one being larger/longer/whichever way you look at it than the other. I didn't notice then when I removed them. Any ideas which goes on which side?

On a side thing.. are alloy door covers actually a weight saving over the stock card n vynil?

The panel is very thin, it's just 2 or 3 mm aluminium panel, each one wouldn't weigh much at all. But yeah, you're right, it's not going to transform the car! I'll leave the rest of the rally car to another thread now though, and keep this one on the Pinto in the RS!

Flywheel in the RS gets machined today too hopefully.

Today I took the camshaft oil spray bars into work, I cleaned and tested them, to make sure they were not blocked or contaminated. Ready to go into their respective engines.


I also had the flywheel machined, important to do when installing new clutches. Imperfections cause hot spots to form, which damage the clutch and flywheel. Also bought a clutch alignment tool for installing the clutch plate easily.



Now I have all I need to get the engine and gearbox back into the RS2000! Watch this space.

Mmm not sure I'd be a fan of a rainbow effect... plus I'm no spray painter. I have gone with a Royal Blue, sort of a dark deep blue. Given the rocker cover a couple coats, rubbing back between each, but it needs some more. Also have a nice clear gloss to go over the top.

I think I am spending as much time on this rocker cover as the rest of the engine... hope it turns out ok! [B)]
