Racing a Capri - fuel tank solutions??

Hi all,
Have been slowly converting my Mk1 capri from road/race to race only and need to find out what other people have done for fuel tanks etc.
my problem with the standard tank is that it leaks out the filler cap on hard cornering if I put more than approx 20 litres in.
the scrutineers have pulled me aside a couple of times now and I dont want to get them offside...
Does anyone have a solution or do I just rip out the original tank and get a fuel cell??

    Hi Craig,

Could you use a second rubber o-ring to help seal the factory cap or get a better fitting cap?

What class do you race in?

    Hi Rhys,
currently doing the modern regularity series and will be doing sprints/hillclimbs when i get a bit more organised!
I've tried a couple of different caps with/without keyholes and thicker sealing gaskets to no luck.
Main problem is around turn 2 at Mallala when the fuel goes to the rhs and pushes up against the filler cap.

Could you use some flexible fuel hose and soemthing like this?

You could mount  it to the lip on the boot seal.

    Hi Matt,
    thanks for the suggestion.
checked that out on the weekend and the problem is the filler on the tank sits at or just above the height of the boot opening...

anyone have any suggestions on whether alloy or poly tanks are better??

What about a return line in the filler neck.. A small t piece welded into the neck and plumbed to the top overflow/pressure line outlet on top of the tank.

Another idea my late has on his datto rally car. (Similar style tank) is a motor bike air bleeder under the petrol flap bleeds fuel back to the tank pretty well
