ESCORT MK1 BROWN STEERING WHEEL WITH CENTRE PIECE

Chasing an original MK1 Escort Brown Steering Wheel. Surely there are some of these lying around in good condition? If anybody can help I will pay a very fair price. Thanks, Ken

    No need. It is the standard MK1 Escort steering wheel in a brown colour. I know these exist but I have brown interior with a black steering wheel which suggests it has been changed out.

    What year is your mk1? My '74 model has a brown interior with the black wheel and column shrouds.
    Were they all like this, or did the early cars have a brown wheel?

     
    My mates '73 4-door also has the black wheel and shrouds.

    Gents. I am now aware that the black steering wheel and black shroud is normal for the brown interior as per photos above (in Australia anyway). Tapitallee? Is this the Tapitallee that is near Nowra? If it is let me know because we are nearly neighbours and I would be more than happy to have a look at your MK1. It looks like a class act. Ken

    If you ever decided to go all brown for your interior, I have a factory brown (dark saddle) sports version of the standard escort wheel (padded leather rim).

    I bought it to use on a Capri as they are the same as the Capri factory option wheel, but I'd be happy to sell it or swap for a black sports wheel in similar condition.

    I've taken a couple of pictures next to a black wheel so it's easier to distinguish the dark brown.

    The sports wheel was an option on most, possibly all, small Ford models of the late 60's / early 70's. In Australia, I think they were only available in black for some reason (e.g. Aussie Mk1 Capris always had a black dash/wheel/console regardless of trim colour), but they colour matched interiors in the UK.

    The brown wheel I have was originally from the UK. The leather rim is coloured dark brown, but the centre pads were all originally made of black rubber and painted to match the trim.

    The leather on this wheel is very good considering the age, and just needs restitching on the bottom join (leather is not torn, just the stitching has come loose). It has a few small marks on the leather rim, but a leather restoration shop would bring it up very well.

    I only want replacement value, or a straight swap for a comparible black wheel. I think it would cost around $250 to replace.
