Drill a pilot hole with the normal drill bit. Then carefully drill thru top sheet metal with the cutting bit

Saw this drill advertised on a certain site recently. Was wondering just how good it actually was.  Still in my watch list.

I still use the other style flattened drill bit with pilot hole. It doesn't look as good as those. Ive always been dubious about your setup from an access point of view. Looks like it works very well.

its pretty good - they give u replacement cutters x 6 with the thingo - but they last a while..
Getting the spot welds where the guard is fixed to the a piller can be a pain - I get as many as I can from inside

he's a fuss pot - but its worth it - im back to the stage I was before he started (but this time in steel). He taps away and buggerises around to get everything just nice. he's cost me $2500 so far but I tell u its made a big difference. its just that much nicer....

door is slightly open here - he fitted the doors & bonnet, screwed the guards on temp, took the bolt on panels off, glued the guards on and screwed them back where they were and clamped them. tomorrow he'll weld them on. You can barely see the weld in the scuttle. all the panels were primed and painted underneath prior to fitment. Its a crisp, clean shell now.

Those gaps look good, probably better than new. You will be pleased with the effort when its all done, well worth it.

Agreed there, looking really good. Tedious work but nice to see someone taking the time at this point. It'll really 'make' the car at the end of it all.
Keep the pics coming Drew.

Hey Spud15,

Is the master plan to reproduce the appearance of the authentic factory spot welds along the top of the guard rails?
If yes how does he plan to do it?

I have an RS3100 - I'll be buying a spot welder for that. The Modena green one on ebay UK has inspired me - all new panels and even the spot welds are evenly spaced - neater than factory!

If you buy it, I can borrow it right?

Looks good!

This stuff seems ok - rust reformer (Bunnings) - I clean all the paint and bog etc off old panels - at the moment I'm doing bonnets) then when I get the chance I'll fix them. It seems to do a very good job at keeping them sealed and is easy to take off if required
