Yes, I like those brackets and have collected quite a few. Also interior plastic stuff - some people collect stamps ......

finally escaped the missus - back to work on the v6. Have almost finished the rust repairs now: both sides were the same - the sills had been covered with a folded section of sheet which had been welded to the gau rds etc - so i had to chop them out - you can see from the 3nd pic how extensive the prob was. the 2rd pic shows the old panelling o

anyway, today ive inserted another front sub frame - the old one was rusted out. The first pics show the sides sub frames after id eased the front one out - nice and clean. went in heavy with the sabre saw, then eased the residue off, nice and slow with the angle grinder and buff wheel. The last pic shows the last residue of the old rusted sub frame. The battery tray was cactus - scored a new one off ebay uk. The sub frames all done now - will put a pic up tomorrow. Actually, I like working on them outside - sunlight is much better than artificial light but the weather hasn't been exactly kind in this sense of late and it takes longer to get the required result. Ive replaced the bootlid, drivers guard and doors. The bonnet will require a repair, as did the apron. So im just about finished the rust stuff now - prepping next...

I've seen a few with rust along that edge, always wondered why. No water trap, no stone chips, no road muck, maybe something to do with the stamping process all those years ago?

I bit the bullet and delivered her to the sand blasters the other week. When I began to remove the horrible under coat she came in I found that at some stage paint had been partially stripped off her and then she had been left out in the weather. They had treated the extensive surface rust - turning it black - but it looked disgusting. The sand blaster uses - used sand - more like talc - to do the job, spraying it obliquely onto the larger panels such as the roof and quarters. It really is a great result- no warpage at all and nice shiny steel all over - including in all of those hard to get places. He'll put it in etch primer and I'll take her home. Saved me a lot of hassle and I know the paint is going over a great surface. This shell will have very little filler - just minor welding etc now - and then the paint. The pic shows her covered in the talc ready for a final blast. Its been the most extensive repair work ive done on a shell. She wont be a show car by any stretch, I wont bother to even touch the sub floor etc - but hopefully a neat v6 with all of the original lines there. When you look at the snouts on the guards etc - nice and crisp! (hopefully!).

I also found another original air cleaner box for her while I was away - they are becoming difficult to get - none of the v6's I own have one. This one came off a Mk 4 Zephyr (apparently) but is exactly the same as the pre facelift capri.
