mk2 1600, suggestions
hi all,
well the time has come for some suspension work. plans are single leafs in the rear, new coils in front, all lowered about 150mm(plan on staying with 205/60/13 tyres).
so, is it possible to use lowering blocks on single leaf parabolic springs? and what are everyones suggestions for front springs. only want to go slightly stiffer than standard, as i have monroe gt gas struts. that and it handles very nicely as is. gets used daily and most hillclimbs, light khanacross work.
p.s. its standard 4 door mk2, with 1600 kent.

Hey Mate,
Don't use lowering blocks just get the leafs made to your required height.
Kings do front and rear springs that will suit what you want.

i was leaning towards single leafs but seeing as i can get kings locally and already lowered i think they may be the go. are they any good for reducing axle tramp? dont really wanna spend the cash on anti tramp bars

If you want to get rid of axle tramp then you need to speak to Wozzah on this forum.
He gets specially made kings springs with an extra rebound leaf added and then you need to couple it with some bilstein shocks and axle tramp will be a memory.
Not cheap but nothing ever is. Other wise for a cheap solution go the tramp bars but as you want to do some racing i'd go thr first option. In fact i just did!

Springs hold things off the ground, shocks - aka dampers - dampen the oscillations of the said springs.
Munroe gas will give approx a couple of monthes under standard conditions and less if they bottom out. Also steer clear of GAZ.

well that explains the crap ride with the monroes! i think kings all round with some bilsteins sounds like the go (well, my wallet doesnt agree  ) or some bilstein adjustable coilovers on the front

Why steer clear of GAZ?
I've got GAZ adjustables all round and I'm totally happy with them. They have transformed my ride!

well, i went to autobarn today, so king springs for the front sorted. as for the bilsteins, should i get the b6 or the b8 (sport or sprint)? that just leaves the rears to get. also thinking adjustable strut tops, seeing as i'm a wheel aligner i can set it exactly how i want it. any suggestions for those?

Nit sure on the billys for the front as I have Koni's.
What year is your car? The earlier MKII's have a larger strut top hole then the later ones.
If it's the later one then you don't have too many options but here are a few from K-Mac
The K-Mac Stage 1 kit for street use is steel with ball bearings and urethane, $380 pair inc GST
Stage 2 - Street/Race - all alloy with pillow ball bearing in urethane, $480 pair inc GST
Stage 3 - Full Race - as Stage 2, but no urethane/flex, $480 pair inc GST

well, i can get bilsteins for the front, but the rears are a 1-2 month wait, however i think i found a place with rear koni shocks in stock. is it worth chasing the koni's or just stick it out with the monroes until the bilsteins arrive?
also, first hillclimb is in 4 weeks, so quicker is definately better

How have you found their postage rates Matt? I just got quoted 44 pounds to have a master cyl and 4 xmember bolts freighted.
