Thanks for the suggestions guys, much appreciated. I just had a quick look at my pistons and they are correctly aligned with the pad locator. Sorry for the poor pics. One photo is looking down the central gap on top of the caliper where you can see the position of the piston slot, the other is looking up on the opposite side. Hard to show in the pics but the piston and pad look to be sitting correctly as you have described, which might confirm why at least the inner pads are sweepiing evenly, just doesnt explain why the outer pads are not sweeping evenly.... A while back i also marked the outer side of the disc with texta, the texta marks are still there on the inner half of the disc, so the pads are not even touching the inner part of the discs even under braking. Any other thoughts? Cheers!
Shocking photos, however if it is all assembled correctly and slide pins are free and smooth, just let them bed in. it may take some time before it looks 'right'. Had it been the inner rotor side and not outer you probably wouldn't even know. Cheers

Thanks guys. I will double check that the slide pins still move freely and there's nothing blocking the caliper, then continue down the bedding in path.... It does seem quite a large tolerance though if it is just the case of more bedding in required. Don't get me wrong RS2000, I'm not at all concerned about the look, but concerned about what braking performance I might be losing and also what my engineer might say when I try to get certification for all my mods. The other half - sorry to hijack your thread!

Update: The diff and Caliper conversion is fully fitted and working perfectly. The new handbrake cables are a dream. I highly recommend this as a project for anyone wanting rear disk brakes. I'll post some photos of the diff removed and fully painted in a month or so... In the mean time I've found out quite a bit about this R31 rear upgrade. Apart from the classic ford guys liking this option, Clubman and Datsun owners love this mod too. Paul Dunstan here on the forum makes excellent bracket kits to fit these. See here http://www.classic-ford.org/cfp/tm.aspx?m=21020. However I've found that Datsport offers full spec upgrades for their cars. See here http://www.datsport.com/brake-rear-conversions.htmlIt seems they also offer fully overhauled and panted R31 Calipers ready to fit for $230. Quite a bargain IMHO considering how much it cost to overhaul and paint mine. See here http://www.datsport.com/brake-rear-R31-caliper-DBP2690.htmlMight as well steal them off the Dat boys! haha Escortinadriver: Yup, I'll get to that photo when I can....

Paul Dunstan Being a floating calliper it should be fine. I have some extra gold plated 2.5mm spacers if it will help centre the rotor better? Might look nicer than washers too :-) Free + postage if suitable.
Can I take you up on these mate?

My calipers were $20 off ebay with handbrake cables and with a rebuild kit for $60 and some paint $20 was a fair bit cheaper than $230. Mind you the paint job looks nice. Cheers, Matt
