    Why not just take yours to an instrument specialist and get it repaired. Any second hand sender is likely to but just as rooted as they one you already have.  I had one done about 2 years ago and it cost me about $100

    Make it go FASTER!

    I have just rewired the card myself on a sender, using 30ga resistive wire bought off ebay for $6, going to throw it in the tank one of the next few weekends and see how it goes. ill let you know the results if you like.
    I also purchased a new o ring from ebay which is always a good idea too.

    sender working fine just leaking around plastic sleeve were wire goes though. can that be repaired

    Yes it can. Had same issue, plastic just crumbled away after tank not been used for 10 years.
    From memory I used 5 or 6 mm bolt with 2 steel/ rubber seals(commonly used as rocer cover bolt seals). The inner seal I used is Mazda fe sohc rocer cover seal and outer is Nissan Ca20 sohc rocer cover seal.
    The Mazda one seals,locates and insulates the bolt from the sender plate, and Nissan one seals better as it is rubber both sides. The bolt length was selected to be 'too long' as that becomes the new connector for the existing wire and ford connector.
    If all of this sound confusing I can post some pics of the seals etc. as I have a few of these seals.

    I was worried how long these seals would last being in petrol so I did it as a temporary fix and a bit of a experiment. This 'temporary' fix has now lasted 2 years and still going strong with external seal still looking perfect.

    I am sure this can be done differently but I did it with stuff I had laying around.
