MATTJ Got a replacement logbook for the lost one so cage only needed to meet the original cage specs of the time it was first log booked so it's fine as is will get more bars though before I paint the interior
Hey Matt, it's coming along nicely! Just quickly though - did you confirm with CAMS that the above is in fact the case and do you have it in writing? My understanding is that as you have built a new cage (i.e. it is not the same cage the car was originally logged with), it must be built to current specs and recertified. Obviously it's not such an issue if you only plan to do speed events, but anything beyond that could cause a few headaches if you can't prove that what you have done is above board. But I think it's great that you have swapped to steel in any case!

Hey simon, as the car was orginally logbooked as a group c car (4 number logbook), i didnt get a brand new log book but a replacement one of the lost one i didnt get with the car when i got it. So yes as the car was logbooked with a alloy cage i could have just left it in, but decided to go with steel for the safety reasons (i have the emails saying alloy cage and design are fine and new ROPS dont need checking). If i needed to get the ROPS approved i would need to submit a cage design and get the certificate sticker etc, thats before i would be given a new logbook but seeing as it was a replacement logbook its fine.. sorry for the waffle on. hope it makes sense cheers matty

Hi Matt, Do you know the Group C history? Do you know who the original owner/driver was?? I know Bob Holden is looking for one of his lost MK2 Escorts. And why didn,t you restore it back to a Group C Escort!! We need more small cars in the field! Cheers, Carl

Hi Carl sadly i know nothing about the cars history what so ever!, other than the fact i found its logboook number stamped on the strut top, and its been seem welded, rosejointed, has a long distance fuel tank and all the adjustable rear swaybar mounts that the group c cars ran back then on it, i have no idea. When i stripped it back i found it was orginally a maroon coloured car with possibly a white roof? (on a mk2 1976 model is this normal?) Would be awesome if it was bob holdens, but i would feel bad considering how cut up it was. I havent converted it back to its original spec as i have no idea what that is. If one day i do get its history etc and its like a ex bathurst car or something ill definatly be restoring it

Hey Matt, Could you please tell me who you got the new steel bolt-in roll cage from, how good the fit is and how easy/difficult it was to fit it? Thanks.

From memory its a bond roll cage but i added a under dash bar and im planning on adding a few more before i paint it all up. Its a good fit as well i think theres another thread on here from a guy who put a bond cage in lately and looks good as well Hey matt, not sure what the power is, its 60 thou over size, forged pistons, balanced/polished crank, high flow oil pump, big valve head, race cam, with the 3 X 45s etc should get "enough" to push the old girl along i think!

cheers matt, finish date is the sooner the better in my opinion haha.. i think the cold weather will beat me to put colour on the outside but if i can russle up enough heat lamps ill give it a go. if not i can now put all the running gear in and get it going and paint in the spring when it warms up (and get more shed space back from all the parts strewn all over the shop!)
