hi all, i fitted my new rebuilded engine few weeks back and have been tryen to get it started since with no joy, its a 1.6 xflow with new valve relief pistons, duplex double chain, steel crank pully, 244 cam, head has oversize valves, double valve springs, bick carbs and extractors.Iv go spark and fuel and have set the timming about 100 time just to be sure but still nothing, the other thing is iv got a new battery but when i turn it over it sounds like its dead, tryed a different starter motor but the same, so thats the story if anyone has an ideas please let me no as im starting to get pi**ed off with it thanks eamon

cheers lads, earth lead engine to frame checked, new solenoid, iv stuck my 2.0 pinto starter in to see will it crank it over any better it helps a bit but not much.I was told that i may need a high torque starter motor cause of the compression on engine is this true cheers

Sounds to me like the compression is too high for the old kent starter and you'll need to go to a high torque starter

Are you 100% timing is correct. I'd be thinking timing. A standard starter should still turn it over ok, ie not as bad as you describe unless compression is that high it wont run on pump fuel. Rhys
