in nsw where i am it is that but its a 3.0 litre and my ghia is 1003 kg stock times by 3 is 3009 and forced induction (turbo/supercharged) is 2507.5 so the engine is naturallya spirated non turbo so it can be done right
Are you going by the weight figure from the RTA? You need to use their figures, not manufacturers specs. I'm also led to believe that firewall mods are no longer 'legit' here in qld esc-078 2 Jay-Z in a Escort
Brilliant!

The Sr20 NA would be a much nicer option. And way less work and expense. You do know you can get off the shelf kits to fit 2.3ltr Duratecs though don't you? (any mazda6 or SP23, or focus 2.0ltr engine). A internally standard 2.3 litre (mazda) Duratec with ITB's, exhaust, ecu your looking at around 230hp. Thats easily pushing the boundaries for the escort chassis strength. And quiet fast for such a light road registered car. Most top gun escort race cars you see are usually around 250-300hp max. Remember the way escorts go fast is weight. They handle, accelerate and are such fun cars because they're light and nimble. Add a nice modern efficient 4cyl like a SR20 or Duratec and you have a great car that does everything well and a hoot to drive. You don't need 350hp+ like all these other cars out there for them to go fast.

The first three things (diff, gearbox, brakes) would be the easy part. The'whole 9 yards' however...

I was thinking has anyone put a 2JZ-GE in a escort and would it be legal as it is a 2997cc 3.0ltr and it produces 220hp stock.
Cheers Stewart
Hi Stewart To answer your question, Yes it does fit with the matching R158 gearbox, larger tunnel is needed, recessing is not needed, done a few as well as in the Toyota corolla box shape, if you are able to source a Half cut import-would make life easier on the build as the wiring and comp box is all included just have the immob code deleted and use the original Ecu Cheers

If ur after power and a 'sleeper' y bother going to all the trouble of putting a NA 2j in... U WILL need to recess the firewall bigger tunnel hilux diff (cus there proven)
U wont see change from 15-20k... All for 220hp...
Y not jus put an sr20 in with basic mods for the same money and make 300-350rwhp...

Sure, 2jz-gte, dump the twin turbo set-up and fit a single turbo, simpler for the exh/manifold design. custom engine mounts-should take about 30mins to make at home, throw the original scorts cross member out and bobs your uncle, over enough space for radiator and large Fmic

There wont be enough space for radiator/intercooler unless u recess the firewall... I hav an sr20 in my escort and its a pretty tight squeeze as it is (front to back)
Wat r you going to replace the standard crossmember with if u throw it out... Ucant jus weld engine mounts to the chassis rail and not run a cross member... A set of custom engine mounts made properly and to hav the engine sitting were it should will take longer then 30mins to make as well...
Its a waste of time for a street driven car...
Jus stick with 1 of the many 4cyl and ull make the power ur after easy enough and itl save u alot of fking around...
