Craig's new toy

Hi Guys , been a long time reader but thought it time to join in with a couple of pics of my new toy, these were taken today , after the weekend I hope to add a few of the cleaned up version

I believe it to be a genuine 79 rally pack in factory colour , has been off the road for 10 years

Came with a heap of spares and heaps of new parts such as rubbers , carpets etc

Has brand new completely retrimmed RS front and rear seats which will be going into my RS .This 1 being returned to std factory look , I already have a perfect set of retrimmed perforated buckets for the front , floor brackets also on their way to be fitted

Only downside is a defect notice for several small things , this will create a heap of work to return the car to std but its a great starting point

Painted 4 or so years ago , has 14 inch globes and sounds great , purchased as a non runner but it only took me 5 minutes to get it going with a battery , fuel in the carb and a few turns , drove it home on a trade plate and now ready for some work

Looking for a stock exhaust and perforated rear seat if anyone in SA / other areas can assist , just for starters

Cheers Craig

Great project. What a bonus having the RS seats in it.

Hi Sundowner / Ratta tat tat ,  the lad I purchased from has owned for at least 8 or 9 years but yes the previous owners name was Dom

Love to know any history you have

The last owner has done a heap of work to it but my plans are to remove the defect by going back to original then once rego'd to make some suttle changes

One of the main reasons for purchase is a near enough brand new fully retrimmed set of RS seats that I am going to fit to my RS so they were a real bonus

Hope to work on the car tomorrow to clean it up and post a few more pics

    Cheers Craig

G'Day Craig, been interstate and only just found this thread.

Yes its my mates old car. I knew the owner before Dom also and talked Dom into buying it from him ;-)
I wish I bought it from Dom instead of Ben but thats hindsight for you as the $'s that swapped hands for it back then was chicken feed.

Some good times were had in that car. It was defected when two fellas from school crashed and passed away near Doms house, police defected it whilst Dom drove past the crash site one morning after it happened. It was very loud though. I could easily hear it coming from half a km away. It was also quite low in the rear when air shocks were let down.

I'm still in touch with Bens older brother (also from school) so I've kept tabs on the car. I went and looked at it a year or so ago with the intention of finishing it off but it never eventuated.

Goodluck with the defect and bringing it back to it former glory, I'm looking forward to seeing it back on the road.

    Cheers,
    Rhys

    Cheers Rhys

Hopefully its not too hard , I have most of the bits required just some hard work, although now another car to house ! Need a bigger shed and more friends with spare room

Ben has spent a heap of $ on it up till now so I think its worth a gamble, still really rust free and straight

Love to see a pic of it from days gone if you have any

Still keen on that seat you have too for my other car if your interested

    Cheers for the reply

    Hi Guys

Thought I would add a bit to the story

Spent a heap of time sourcing bits with the help of many forum members so cheers again to hose who have helped out

I have fitted a standard exhaust

Removed lowered springs and lowering blocks in favor for a std set of 2 litre from my RS

Removed the interior back to the bare shell and sprayed the dash black

Painted / fitted mirrors and new window strips

Removed the alarm ( was driving me nuts ! )

    Replaced the faulty brake master

Prepped the floors for the new seat brackets ( previously removed for RS seats )

Repaired the dash and started on door trim , seat etc spraying ( vinyl spray )

Plus a heap of other bits which have taken a few days !

Anyway its on the way ,

    Cheers Craig
