Bang!  Yep, have wanted a set for ever.  Should have them in a couple of weeks.  Just need some race tyres.

Anyone have any experience with the formula ford tyres?

Cheers,

Matt

 - Did you end up getting them from Gummers SA?

Yes I still have some. mine are pretty old now. AVON is the brand not sure if they still run them or not but for value for money you wont find anything better.

Thanks,
Rhys

No, that dude wanted drug money for them.

I can get the Avons for $55 each on eBay but wanted to know if anyone has used them.

Cheers,

Cool, the Rebels will look great, I've a similar story I used to pass an RS on my paper round as a grommet with a set of Rebels, I couldn't understand why my old boy wouldn't get a set for his 1600GL Funny how I still remember that but can't recall where I put my bumper bolts that came off six monthe ago.....
Cheers Drewdog.........

I would recommend formula ford tyres, did about 40 laps at the track on half shagged ones, stuck like crazy and at the end of the day they didnt look like i had used them. As Rhys said very good bang for buck

If you want specific dimensions for them here is the website
http://www.avonmotorsport.com/motorsport/formula-ford/acb10
And their road legal ones
http://www.avonmotorsport.com/road-legal/performance/acb10-sport
I use 6.0/21.0-13 ACB10s and just buy them second hand

I however cannot compare them to any other tyre because these are the only tyre ive used on the track

Cheers Ryan,

I'll get a set and see how they go.  I have Advan A048's and they seem OK although they are the first and only race tyres I have ever used.

Cheers,

Matt

Few updates here.

Managed to track down some Formula Ford Tyres at next to nothing from a friend of a friend. I think I'll have enough tyres for quite a while now.

I then picked up the Rebel Wheels today.

Had them fitted up and balanced.

Then fitted them to the car.  I forgot to remove the rear wheel spacers which is why they are sticking out too far.   I have wanted a set for over 20 years and i am very happy the way they look.

Thanks for looking

Matt

Finally got the LSD back all built up.  My mate had a spacer machined up rather than use the crush washer.  I have read a bit about the pros and cons of the solid spacer but have not found any definitive answers on which is better.  Given it cost me nothing I am happy he has gone to the trouble.

The bolts holding the crown wheel on just touched the diff housing so a little tickle with the die grinder was required.  Is this normal?

Few pics

Hi Matt, rebels look good! What diff ratio did you go for? Are you 4 or 5 speed these days?
Many years ago I had similar clearance problems with the CW bolts just fouling on the housing. I was building a clubman at the time and trying to save weight so I used a Quaiffe ATB in an Anglia centre which is slightly lighter, thinner in the webbing  etc. Probably a few variations in castings over the years plus different LSD/ATB's available, bolt heads etc.

looking good,
SFE

Hey mate,

Yes, I am very happy with the rebels.  You see heaps of minilites (with good reason) but these are pretty rare.

3.89 is what I went for in the end.  It's just a 4 speed currently but I am on the look out for a celica 5 speed conversion if anyone has one floating around surplus to requirements.

I know you can use flywheel bolts to replace the crown wheel bolts which may have more clearance but there wasn't much material to remove anyway.

Cheers,

Matt
