You need the lowered rack mount one.

Sump clearance to the rack. I don't have any pics of hand. the rack mounts 10-15mm lower for the sump. It's a common issue people come across when they don't get the right info.. May be Ulsterman if he reads this he may have a pic to show, as he has the 2.3 in his MK1. If you go onto one of the UK sites (GRP4, Rallydesign etc.)and have a look at the WCXM's you should be able to see the difference with a good eye.

Lowered rack mounts are for rally cars set higher than standard to get a reasonable (near flat) angle for the steering arms. If you have lowered rack mounts on a road or lowered height car you will have terrible bump steer.

If sump clearance is the issue wouldn't it be better to mod the sump than muck about with the steering angles?

With all the different engine conversions taking place these days, and the need to lower the rack to get the correct driveline angles, clearences and to set the engine as low as possible in the engine bay, I'm very surprised someone hasn't come up with adjustable bump steer kits for MK1/2 Escort and Capri ect, like the ones pictured below. The market for these will only grow as more and more conversions take place. Much easier to fit than having to modify the sump, especially if it's an alloy cast sump, which most are these days. The only issue I see is them passing roadworthy, but that hasn't stop most on here now has it..
