Hmm the link if you read carefully has no mention of the enclosure.

The enclosure its self retails at $75 and the filter $149, All I can do on K&N really is %10 off.

Hope this helps,
Jordan

guys

ring up any motorsport / performance shop....
Try revolution, I got mine from Grant Munday Performance (GMP)a few years ago for just over $100 per filter assembly,

Sterling - the one one Ebay looks the right one - when I brought mine there was no mention of the enclosure not coming with them, I cant imagine them now being $225 per filter

I even found the same on Ebay at the same shop

hizaaahh!

K&N part# 56-1350

thanks buddy

Sterlo, that part number is the same as I bought for my TB's. It came with the filter, the base plate, the top plate, screws and gaskets. This is where I got them,

http://www.efihardware.com/products/138/air-filter-KN-dcoe-4.5-x7x3.25

But you can do better than that. I got 10% off for being trade but I think most stuff is marked up 10% anyway.

Regards,
Craig.

why does it say it needs an air filter spacer to clean fuel rails?

Oh Yes you know you want these( I bought 3 on ebay for $120 total there were about 2 months old)they show up on ebay from time to time,Ive got 2 for my dellortos and the spare is on my 32/36dgv with a few mods(and soon on my 38dgas),and with your ram tubes, dont go crazy with the length of your ram tubes as they will start to loose power for you inside your K&N filters with the air bouncing off and slowing flow from the top cover of the filter,I made my ram tubes up out of alloy tube and turned out quite good for about 1hrs work on the lathe,i lost the bloody photos of them, will track some down. for you.
cheers

It actually says it needs a spacer to clear the fuel rails - not clean (for injection on the TB's) With carbies you wont have to worry.

I use uni socks over the trumpets.. but then with efi theres not so much risk of backfire (touch wood). I haven't had any dramas.

I have run socks ramtubes on 2 Escorts with twins for over 15 years and never set one alight with a backfire.... As I said - MAKE SURE YOU TUNE THE CARBS... And you can run a decent sized ram tube with socks that you CANNOT inside a K&N as you need some space (ideally the diameter of the ram tube) between the end of the ram tube and the end plate and between the end plate and the inner guard for the K&N.....
K&N flow very well for a filter and are a great filter, but for all round drivability you want to run as long a ram tube as you can. For max power a short ram tube will suffice, but the bigger the cam, the more likely the carb is to spit out a short tube.... (But one of my cars runs a 520X and does not spit out with the longer ram tubes!)

Sterling - Have a look at what 90% of rally cars running sidedrafts - see what they run... If you look at what the "competition cars" are running vs the "show / road" cars, you will find a similar answer...
On paper the K&Ns wins and looks much nicer (hence used on 90% of the shiny Escorts), but in the real world (where the cars performance is key and the paint not so shiney), socks do a better all round job (allowing the use of longer ram tubes as the biggest benefit) and hence a more ballanced real world performance.

Stering - What do YOU want?

Here endeth the lesson....

well thats the problem, i dont know what i want! my carbs backfire all the time, but out the exhaust, im yet to hear/see an intake backfire.

well i guess ill start polling, thats 4 for K&N's, and 3 for socks.

ive done a real dodgy as air cleaner setup, because i do need to move the car every now and then to different points of my property (in and out of shed, to front garage, etc) so ill pull one of them off again, get some measurements and see what i end up with.

sock filters just seem like the easy simple choice, but easy and simple can also collide with cheap and nasty.

ill report back in a bit.

if sock filters are oiled properly does this help prevent any fires? or does the oil just go up in smoke aswell? lol

Is there anyone who can give me the amount of overhang off the carbs for the 56-1350 filters?

I have some space issues with the brake master cylinder and an XFlow so if I could get the distance the filter comes out from the end of the carb lengthwise that wil really help me.
