Cam Vernier, Got one, How to install
Just trying to get everything prepared before i get my dynotune and was considering a cam vernier, What are your thoughts on them? are they really worth it?
I was thinking about getting one of these verniers, anyone know if they are ok? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/KENT-CAMS-VERNIER-PULLEY-FORD-PINTO-OHC-CORTINA-ESCORT_W0QQitemZ230257180559QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item359c65bf8f

Do all cam vernier's do the same thing? like a cheap one like the kent one VS maybe a $200 one? any benefits to spending more with a vernier?

If you have a non standard cam they are worth every cent!
Some of the cheap ones are alloy and are often very soft so they arent very durable.

make sure you get one like in your first post as it allows much more accurate adjustments over the 'Peg' type one's.

I ended up buying a new piper vernier, now i've never changed a timing belt or vernier before and this will be my first. i know it's very important to now move the cam or crank so im wondering what's the best way to change it without messin anything up.

remove engine fan timing cover and whatever else is in the way, then the drive belt, and crank pulley,
remove the timing belt crank pulley cover, then release the bolts on the tensioner, you can now turn the cam gear approx one tooth anti clockwise, then slide the belt off.
to put it on, turn the cam pulley one tooth(ish) backwards again, and let it spring itself back to TDC properly, putting tension on that half of the timing belt, dont let go of the spanner that should be on the crank pulley either, then force the belt over the tensioner.
THE ONLY REAL MAIN RULE IS, TURN THE ENGINE OVER ATLEAST TWICE, BY HAND. TO DOUBLE CHECK THE TIMING didn't JUMP A TOOTH WHEN PUTTING ITSELF UNDER TENSION BEFORE CRANKING OVER WITH THE STARTER.
good luck!

Ok, i've got the vernier on but i am having a bit of trouble with getting the belt off to replace it with another. If i undo the crank pulley bolt will it move the crank at all? I am trying to be really careful. You can get it off without taking the fan off aswell cant you? Any help would be much appreciated. Rhys

i assume you mean "crank" pulley bolt? if so, yes it will try to spin the motor. and regards to the fan im not tottaly sure, when i did mine i was running a thermo, but u mightaswell take it off, cant make things easier

No need to remove the fan at all.
Lock the crank pulley with a screwdriver so it doesnt turn when you undo the bolt, also put the car in 4th gear and pull the handbrake on so the motor cant really turn at all.
Remove the crank pulley (you may need a puller) and the big washer behind it.
Loosen the tensioner off and you should be able to slide the old belt off the tensioner (smooth surface), the belt should then fall off the top and bottom pulleys.
Make sure all the pulleys are lined up before you put the new belt on, pushing the tensioner in with a screwdriver at the same time.
As previously mentioned, turn it over twice before tightening up tensioner.
If the internal mark in the dizzy doesnt line up exactly, just loosen off the dizzy and twist it and lock again. No need to remove the belt again if just this pulley is wrong.
