No work shop, Not even a shed[8~2]. I just have a mig welder, cut off saw and grinder. I have been doing all my work out side thats why when its hot or raining the progress stops.[xx(] Ive just taken my time.... Look, fit, mesure, remove, cut, refit, check, remove, tack weld, refit, recheck and on to the next section if it is right. I went throu that process for every section of pipe at least once.[B)][B)]. It wont be comming to SFS. I havnt had time to get the sump made or the motor back together . I am still coming thou, I hope.

Bugger. I did without a shed for a year and it almost killed me ! luckily for me, ,my dad built a shed out the back for me in his new house to keep my cars off the grass [88]

Well started back on my escort today. removed all carpet and dash so i can start cutting out the fire wall and trans tunnel. It has been made bigger and patched up with fiberglass and silicon.[xo][xo] have to cut the whole lot out and start from scratch[:(!][:(!]oh well thats what you get when you take on a car that someone has been there before you and not done anything properly.[8~2][8~2]

well after looking at the abortion of a job that they have done on my tunnel i have gone to the wreakers and found an auto tunnel so i will be replacing the lot. also got a good drivers door and maybe some other bits. just mesured up a 1990 model capri steering rack and i am gettign that also to put in as it far shorter than the rack that i had. should be able to get the steering geomitry right now.[:p] Now back to remove it all[:-(][:-(]

I have had this week off sofar but im back to work tomorrow[8~2][8~2] What can i say, i have been insired by SFS, to get this thing going ASAP as it will be something very different. I am even thinking about going dry sump with the motor, but i need to do a little bit of reserch on that first. once i get the fire wall and tunnel in, then i can fit the motor properly and get on and do all the fiddly bits. This auto tunnel will make it much easier and i will make up a cross member to use the orignal gearbox mounts.[:x)]

Luv ya work as always darnold. Can you explain a little more about the firewall. Was it a necessity to the conversion, or something you descided to do while you were in there?

Originaly i was trying to get the motor back as far as i could so i could use a machanical water pump but in the end i will have to go for an electric one anyway. The drivers side was ok but the pasenger side needed moving back to allow room for the head as it is back furter on that side. I will still be retaining my heater fan thou. the fire wall change has ment i can fit the motor about 40mm further back which will help with keeping the weight off the front axel a little also. once i fit my blower belt, alternator/power steering belt, 4 core radiator and intercooler there is no room left infront of the motor. I am hoping that i can fit 2 puller fans on the radiator and one pusher on the inter cooler. you wont see the one on the intercooler as it will be up in behind the nose cone.[%]

Well i have got the steering rack mounts tacked on to the crossmember and fitted into the shell, motor and gearbox sitting back in, so i can get the new tunnel lined up and inplace. Once i get the tunnel tacked in, i can make up my gearbox crossmember so it bolts up to the auto mounts. Its all comming along nicely now. [:x)][:x)]Another couple of months and it should be getting close[}:)]

Sounds good darnoldrs
Just out of curiousity, how do you know at what angle the gearbox sits to the diff.( if you know what i mean), cause i want to do a crossmember for my car but im unsure of the angle to the gearbox.

I have very limited room to make everything fit into so it is just where it fits. I have kept the back of the box up as much as posible to keep as much ground clearance as i can.[xx(] As for the angle of the uni's, I havnt worried to much as i can corect it a little with the angle of the diff pinion but once again, It will just end up being on what ever angle it has to be on to make it all fit. I may just have to replaice my uni's a little more regulary, but i am hoping it all lines up faily close.[x2x]
